L'Oreal Studio Secrets Resurfacing Primer: Review


When the L'Oreal Studio Secrets range was launched recently in the UK I immediately had my eye on the Resurfacing Primer. This is mainly due to the fact that my number one beauty issue (on a fairly substantial list) is that I have some fine lines already appearing under my eyes, despite the fact that I am only in my mid-twenties, personally I think this is a little unfair and will do anything in my power to treat/tone down/hide the dreaded lines.


So, right on cue - in rolls this wonder product from L'Oreal Studio Secrets - that promises to deliver a smooth, perfected skin, primed for foundation application. Sounds good right? But does it do as it says on the tin?


Pretty much, yep. It smooths skin and makes the lines SLIGHTLY less noticeable immediately which is great, but the lines don't vanish as I hoped. Despite this, my favorite thing about it is that it prevents foundation or concealer from settling in the under-eye lines throughout the day. I have been using this every day, with either foundation, tinted moisturiser or just concealer on lazy make-up days.


What's not to like? Well, the packaging is pretty non-descript and doesn't seem to me like the most practical design. The texture is quite thick and covering a whole face takes some work, so I tend to concentrate it on the T-zone and under the eyes.

I cant help but feel the price, which was on offer at £9.99 when I bought it, is a bit too high, it is a very small pot and in the month or so since I bought it I have already used about a third already - so I am undecided if I will re-purchase this one or not.

  2. I am on my third pot of this. I love it! Like you I love how it prevents my concealer from sitting in the lines under my eyes. The pot is tiny hence why I am getting through it so quickly! It is comparable to the clarins primer (in the red tub but its half the price!!!)

  6. i do love this primer. i've been using it for a couple months now as my every day primer. definitely cheaper than laura mercier, etc but it is expensive for a drugstore product!

  7. i bought this yesterday and tried it this morning - i must be doing something wrong as my foundation went all cakey and flakey when i put it on top of the primer...

    I probably don`t really fit into this site/blogging for reason that I am nearly 59 year old. Still, loathe age-discrimination, how- and wherever it shows its ugly face!

    And: may be it is quite some revelation that - maybe in some changed ways due to "Experience" and decades of trial and error - any woman who loved and has been interested in fashion/cosmetics - will not stop looking into glossy magazines, all kinds of Online (in my case: mostly!) and Offline-shopping around, staying state-of-the-arts as regards new Hypes(?! well, yes!), products plus their promotional promises(sure, what else) "Can do this, might even do that, doesn`t kill you right away..."

    Okay: my comment on L`Oréal Studio Secrets Primer:
    1. aren`t you lucky, price-wise... here in Germany (yeah, am German, apols) this tiny pot costs about 20 Euros. So, never mind that, but surely one likes the idea that at least the main "promises" come true.
    Yes, liked the first impression of smoothie feeling and looking skin...but: when tried to put on a bit of concealer on my facial skin`s accumulation (yeah, sorry again: aging, amongst all the other chunks of problems creeping up or drowning you like Hurricane Katrina, has its ghastly sides) of red spider veins on cheeks, enlarged pores, lines ,then wrinkles somehow turning up overnight, yes, somehow they are there seemingly out of a sudden... and the fact: once having oily skin, that stays with you for life though , as skin gradually gets drier cause of aging, not so many breakouts no more (but: always still pay attention to terms like "non-comedogenic", "non-acnegenic" on products` containers) Yes: accidentally I did come across some description text bringing on those terms...goody, i thought, reading all the other lovely claims, too. Got it on now, have gone thru a 12 hours workday, put it on -v. curious - this very morning: nearly got me to the edge of reason: Yes, first smoothed on in small amounts on T-Zone and the large pores- area of cheeks, first did seem to fulfill its job, pores appeared less visible (no, didn`t disappear), same with fine lines (but no way with deeper lines, i.e. wrinkles)and, wow the whole face appeared somehow "younger" in the sense of mattified yet a hint of (not oily) shine, all like lightened up.
    Now , here it comes, the absolute disadvantages:
    when putting on concealer, even dared to put on some light make-up, it , in a flat sec, this presumably "getting-rid-of-all-problems", this magic "secret" (haha: it`s mainly good or rather, on the long run, bad (for skin)old-fashioned silicone (been there, done that!)
    make-up didn`t want to easy application, worse, when carefully rubbed on, skin got all flaky, felt like most of the so-called "Firming" Serums, cremes...: all in one go, make-up didn`t "attach" to Primer, looked real gruesome, had to wash all off, tried again, just on nose (well, do have a bit more to get dones...), seemed reasonably setting in, but now the nose looked much lighter than rest of skin, again tinies bit of make-up, and nose looked like having been smothered with some whitish sunscreen, yet got all flaky nonetheless, gave up, washed it all off...by now I didn`t have to apply rouge no more, cause my cheeks had flushed.. "blushed"...
    so: it probably might be an okay-product, when younger skin???, and what I`m concerned got one more lesson going like this: you should have known!
    Still, maybe if you believe in it passionately enough, well, it might be lovely product...for a time, otherwise i call it "an attempt by cosmetic- industry" to rely on bad memories (of those old enough to have been "siliconed" before and sure were not amused) and investing in mythical PR-projects to create a (I guess:) short hype. PR is v. good, the rest (= product PRed) cheap ingredient producing annoying effects. I sentence myself guilty! of age-old stupidity erasing all realistic knowledge/long time-experience
