MAC Cleanse Off Oil: Review

It was way back (about a year ago), when I first started writing my beauty blog that I discovered the wonders of cleansing oil as part of my skin routine. In fact, despite using it on a regular basis - the DHC cleansing oil that introduced me to the benefits of oil cleansing lasted almost to the end of the year.

So when it ran out recently I felt a bit lost! I knew I wanted to get another to add to my routine. I decided against getting another DHC and decided to try the MAC Cleanse Off Oil, purely because this is easier for me to get my hands on. It cost around £15, which is similar to the cost of the DHC version - but the texture, smell, colour and everything is different.

The texture somehow feels finer (that might sound odd for an oil) but I find that it manages to leak through the small gaps between my fingers when I use it, more so than the DHC oil did. The smell is lovely, a bit fruity, a bit citrus-y.

In other ways, the oil works in just the same as the DHC. You massage in to skin, all over and then add a bit of water - the oil emulsifies - and you rinse off, taking your make-up with it.

My skin instantly feels clean - and if I was being lazy, then this is the only step I would do. But generally, I then move on to the rest of my routine. It does tend to feel a little bit dryer than when I used the DHC oil, but not significantly so - plus my skin is dryer than usual at this time of year.

My overall opinion of the MAC Cleanse Off Oil is very positive. It works - my favorite thing is that it manages to remove my eye make-up, mascara and all. I have found that for the past couple of weeks since I added this one in to the routine, I have barely needed any eye make-up remover. Just to remove the last bit of smudge.

I would definitely buy this again.

I bought the product in my review myself. All reviews are honest and impartial, regardless of source.

  5. I realize that this blog post was written ages a ago, but I actually have a question if you don't mind. How long does the bottle last you? And how often do you use it?

  6. Lasts a really long time, I use it once a day - every day (in the evening) and a bottle lasted around 3 months (give or take).
