Ralph Lauren recently launched a version of it’s ‘Big Pony’ fragrance collection for Women. I have a bit of a thing for Ralph Lauren fragrances in general – I find there’s just something lovely and classic about them. I really like the male versions of these and bought the mini set (partly because it was cute) for my boyfriend a couple of Christmases ago.
So I was really happy to see that a version for women was hitting the market and was very excited to try them. So on first sniff I wasn’t sure what to do… I just couldn’t pick which was my favourite, sniffing one after the other was a bit of an error as telling the difference between them is harder to tell. But after some time I have decided which I absolutely adore – but first I’ll go through each and talk notes and ‘personalities’ of each one…
Fragrance number ‘1’
This one is described as the ‘sporty one’ – a floral citrus scent including grapefruit and blue lotus. Personality wise this is the ‘confident and fearless, the sporty woman is a natural born leader and ready to take on the world’.
I’m a bit of a sucker for grapefruit in fragrances, I love the freshness it deliver. Plus blue lotus and there’s a bit more sweetness to this than expected from the description.
Fragrance number ‘2’
This is the ‘sensual fragrance’ – a floral oriental (or floriental…) with cranberry and tonka mousse. Personality wise this is described as ‘for an alluring flirt with a romantic spirit. Playful and irresistible, this modern woman follows her heart… and might just break yours.’
This one is quite floral, with a certain powdery element to it. Probably slightly more evening than daytime.
Fragrance number ‘3’
This is the ‘free spirited fragrance’…apparently ‘eccentric, rebellious and independent’. This is a floral green fragrance with pear and mimosa. With a personality of bright, optimism and a natural feminine radiance for a woman who dances to the beat of her own drum.’
This is the one that jumped out to me on description – it’s definitely a crisp green fragrance, I’d describe more as a fresh smelling fragrance than a floral…but that’s my non-expert nose talking.
Fragrance number ‘4’
The ‘stylish’ one – that’s ‘edgy and refined’ with wild cherry and purple amber – this is an oriental floral.
This one is the ‘sexiest’ of the four and probably my least favourite of all four purely because I don’t lean towards oriental fragrances (although I am partial to the scent of cherry).
So what do I think? If I was making a decision based on the descriptions I would have predicted that ‘3’ would have been my immediate favourite. Both for the personality side of things and the notes in the fragrance – but on actual sniffing/wearing… number 1 is my absolute favourite. I actually like it so much that it would be up there in my current top three favourites… I know, big claims!
But yes, of these four fragrances there’s something for everyone. Perhaps excluding those that are a little pickier with their fragrance choices than others… but in my view there are so many options and personalities in these four and my number one choice is, appropriately…number 1.
As with all fragrances I always suggest you make sure you check them out in person before making your choice as they always do smell different from person to person!
