I was away in NYC when these babies launched – so I missed the launch event for Tanya’s amazing #TanyaBurrLipsandNails collection* – with 12 lip glosses and 10 nail colours, exclusively with Eye Candy. But the exciting thing is that I have swatches of all the shades here for you! So I didn’t miss out on all the fun.
First off, a little word on how awesome it is that Tanya has launched this collection. Firstly because I know it’s a bit of a dream come true (who doesn’t want their name on a lip or nail product?!) and secondly because it really is testament to how much of a big deal blogging and vlogging has become in the UK. Anyone who questions the impact of bloggers or calls it a flash in the pan trend – just needs to look at the success of this collection since launch to see that blogging is a big deal and is here to stay. That’s not to say that all bloggers will be launching their own collections left , right and center (although I’d love a nail varnish in my name, just saying…) – but it just shows how far the ripples of the blogging world can reach. All the way to product development. It’s pretty impressive, and a success like this for one blogger is a little victory for all of us. Exciting times!
So that slight aside covered, on to checking out the prettiness. As I said the range has 12 lip gloss shades – varied from deep red, to the palest nude pink. With creams and glitter in there and a couple of stand out bright shades too. Then for the nails there are 10 colours – which between them basically cover off the essential capsule nail collection. With deep berrys and sparkly purples, to nudes, greys and classic deep reds or bright orange toned reds in there too. It essentially covers all bases (except for a blue, that’s the only shade missing in my opinion).
Let’s start with the glosses:
As you can see there are 12 shades, with varying levels of colour – starting from the palest. There are three really pale shades, a nude, a peachy one and a pinky one. These are great if you like the pale/nude lip look – for my pale skin I find them a little *too* pale for my tastes, preferring the ‘my lips but better’ shades that can be found more on the second row.
I like how the shades that look glittery actually look more subtle on the lips – Smile, Dream, Sparkle and Champagne Toast both just add a bit of plumping light reflection rather than full on sparkle.
Of the whole collection I have two definite favourites – the pretty peachy pink that is ‘Picnic in the Park’ and the bright ‘Exotic Island’. I do also like the red of Vampire Kiss, but tend to lean towards matte shades for red lips personally. Which shades stand out to you?
Formula wise, the stand out thing about these is the super-sweet scent and taste of the gloss. It takes me straight back to when I was a teen and trying lipgloss for the first time. It is super sweet, and it won’t be for everyone – but I like it. The glosses are slightly on the sticky side, but not so bad that the slightest breeze would cause major lip/hair issues. No-one wants that – and a bit of lip smacking helps ease out the stickiness (you know, when you smack your lips together to make the colour spread out evenly over the lips).
Then there’s the nail collection:
With 10 shades this really is a ‘cover-all’ capsule collection. With the baby pink and peaches and cream for the nude/simple days. Bright and Early (coral pink), Mischief Managed (Red) and Be, Bright, Be Happy, Be You or Little Duck for the bright statement nails. Penguin Chic (grey), New York Night (deep berry – very dark, almost black), Riding Hood (deep red) for dark and moody nails. Then Midnight Sparkles for evening or a touch of glamour. As I said above, the only thing I’d love to see in there would be a blue shade – either a royal blue or darker navy. But that’s just me and my blue-loving ways!
Quality wise, I’ve tried an Eye Candy Polish before (a good dupe of Chanel Peridot) and the quality was really impressive – so I had a feeling these would be good. All shades on the wheel were all good with two coats, other than Mini Marshmallows that needed three. I’m actually wearing Penguin Chic (love the name of this one) as I type this and can vouch for the quality – two coats and it’s full coverage and nice and even.
When it comes to favourite shades… I have to say Penguin Chic and Bright & Early. Both lovely shades and absolutely up my street. Which is the one on your shopping list? Of all the shades, none of them are totally unique and un-dupable, but it’s nice to see this range brought together in a collection.
Let me know what you think of the #TanyaBurrLipsandNails collection below – any favourites?! My top picks overall would be Picnic in the Park lipgloss and Penguin Chic nail varnish.
