A little fact for you, my posts about Rimmel lipstick are some of my all-time most viewed. So this new launch from Rimmel is one I have been really excited to try out and review. Rimmel have gone full steam ahead and launched a lipstick called ‘The Only 1’. A pretty bold claim that it’s the only lipstick you will ever need. The biggest question now being is this true – will I now throw out all my other lipsticks and replace with a selection of the 15 new shades of Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick… having had a play with the shades I thought I’d show you all 15 and select my ‘edit’ of my four favourites that make a pretty nice capsule lipstick wardrobe on their own.
So here we have the full army of 15 shades.
Front Row: 810 One of a Kind, 700 Naughty Nude, 120 You’re All Mine, 500 Revolution Red, 510 Best of the Rest
Middle Row:620 Call Me Crazy, 600 Peachy Beachy, 100 Pink Me Love Me, 610 Cheeky Coral, 710 Easy Does It
Back Row: 200 It’s a Keeper, 820 Oh So Wicked, 300 Listen Up, 110 Pink A Punch, 800 Under My Spell
My four ‘top picks’ for the ultimate capsule wardrobe of lipsticks would be:
A bright pink ~ 300 Listen Up. I’ve always been a sucker for a bright pink lipstick and this one has similar tones to one of my all time favourites (Candy Yum Yum from MAC but a little bit richer and a whole lot more hydrating.
A purple/berry shade ~800 Under My Spell. I do have a soft spot for a purple lip. I’m not quite bold enough to use the deep purple berry shades, I prefer the shades that look dark but then pop more when applied to be somewhere between bright purple and a deep berry. This one hits the spot for sure. Ideal for A/W.
A ‘my lips but better’ nude ~ 700 Naughty Nude. There’s nothing naughty about this, it’s ideal. For me this is the ideal shade that sits between nude, peach and pink. Nude enough to look natural, pink/peach enough to be flattering. Big thumbs up from me on this.
An orange-toned red ~ 620 Call Me Crazy. I was torn on this between choosing a classic deep red or a brighter orange toned one. I opted for the brighter option because as much as I love a deep classic red, I think an orange toned bright shade is a bit fresher and more modern. This one is nice and hydrating, very bright and reminds me a little of MAC Morange.
If you were going to narrow your lip options down to just 4/5 shades what would you absolutely need to have in the mix?
These new lipsticks from Rimmel are really lovely quality – anyone who has tried the Kate Moss lipstick collection will know they do lipstick well already so this is just another little step up. The only one thing I’d say is whilst these are pigmented and hydrating, the only thing they can’t really offer to tick the ‘one one’ option is that sometimes it is nice to have a mix of formulas to create different looks – so sometimes I want a red glossy lip, other times I want to have a matte finish. So as much as this is a really good, affordable, pigmented and hydrating lip option… there will always be room for more (says the beauty junkie…!) For £6.99 though, these really are ace lipsticks and a great range of shades.
Have you tried this or other lipsticks from Rimmel? Let me know what you think!
