If you said do you think you would wear an eyeshadow palette with a bright blue, black and pinky purple shimmer shade in it… I’d probably say nope. But then in walked the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette and everything changed. A palette with a mix of totally wearable neutrals alongside some serious colour pop brights. This palette is in fact just the tip of the iceberg of the #UDxGwen collection – there’s a whole bunch of awesome stuff coming – including a blusher palette that has me all flushed with excitement (see what I did there…) but first, the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette…
First things first, a little word on the awesomeness that is Gwen Stefani. Ok, so maybe my inner teenager is still bias, but No Doubt always were the coolest of bands. I remember hunting their album down when I was in Florida on a family holiday as a teen. Spiderwebs was basically the soundtrack to my first boyfriend when I was having a huge internal debate with myself over should I or shouldn’t I kiss him for the first time. BIG questions as a teenager FYI. Especially an indecisive teenager that is. The fact that Gwen looks every inch as cool as she did back then, with her signature platinum hair and red lipstick. Never mind those abs that I’d probably sell a Kidney to have. Basically, Gwen Stefani is what a girl crush is made of and is forever an icon. So thumbs up to Urban Decay for probably the coolest collaboration from a celeb/beauty brand in a long time.
I’ll stop fan girling now and move on to talking about the palette…
There are 15 shades, with a mix of matte and shimmer. Neutral and bright. So you can just as easily do a too-cool neutral eye/liquid liner combo as you can go a little more ‘Harajuku’ Gwen with the colour pop brights. Or you could just add a little pop of colour here or there. It’s basically the ideal palette option if you’re 80% neutral, 20% colourful. I’ve swatched each of the rows of shades below so you can see how they apply – each one is swatched dry.
The main stand out shades for me are the three brights – the pink, blue and gold. All gorgeous and even if you’re not into colour they can work as just a touch of colour around the neutrals too. The blue in particular is just gorgeous for a coloured twist on a smokey eye. But beyond the stand outs, there are a whole bunch of every day shades – matte and subtle shimmer. It really is a fantastic all rounder of a palette. Safe to say, Urban Decay are retaining their crown as rulers of the palette world.
If this hasn’t whet your whistle for the rest of the collection then I don’t know what will… the exciting news being that I have some of the other bits to show you. So keep your eyes peeled for the next few days when I’ll be sharing these!
