Quick affordable home updates

I was going to start this post talking about how Spring always has me wanting to make a few house updates. But then I realised it’s not just this season – it’s pretty much all day, every day. I can’t help but obsess over home bits at the moment and as much as I love buying the bigger items of furniture, I am also a total sucker for those affordable little changes you can make to give an area a fresh take. Grey pintuck bedding may very well be a home wear brand you haven’t heard of before but it ticks all the boxes – alongside the larger items, they have a great selection of items that you can invest in for quick affordable home updates, without breaking the bank or skimping on quality.

Who is Heart of House?

Heart of House is an affordable furniture and homware brand that’s exclusively sold at Argos. I have to admit, Argos wouldn’t be the first place I’d look for house bits unless it was more of an essential item such a vaccum cleaner or laundry basket perhaps. But I went along to the press day for Heart of House to see what they had on offer and I was so impressed. The items are very trend led – each being categorised into different key season trends. But best bit, they’re really affordable whilst still being great quality. I’m talking lamps in the £20-30 mark, cushions (including insert, not just a cover) for around the £10 mark. There’s a chunky bobble rug that I well and truly fell for too. The rug looks SO much more expensive than it is – at £249.99 for the largest size (160x230cm) it’s one of the more pricey soft furnishing items – but a rug is the sort of thing that can totally transform a room. So not a bad investment.

There are larger items of furniture in the Heart of House range from statement chairs and storage furniture but for the purpose of this post I’m looking at the smaller homeware pieces you can pick up to do a quick and easy room refresh with. I’ve picked out a few of my favourite affordable Heart of House products to update the home with:

I picked up a couple of pieces to give the mini sofa area in my office a bit of a refresh. It’s amazing how a couple of affordable homewares and a bit of a re-jig of items you already own can really change the feel of a space. Adding in a couple of grey touches alongside the brighter pops of colour really worked in my opinion. Sort of keeping it calm and ‘grown up’ so it doesn’t let the rainbow colour scheme veer too far into looking like a playground rather than an office. I like having brighter colours around as find it inspiring and motivating, so it’s perfect to have those splashes around the office. But I like having them against a simple backdrop.  Oh and you might have spotted my other new favourite additions – the colourful print on the wall is ‘Colour Movement II’ from Minted.com and my new rainbow espadrilles from the awesome Boden.com – more and more splashed of colour for the neutral setting.

One of the things I’ve been most impressed with is how good quality the items are – especially when the prices are SO affordable. If you wanted to pick up an item of furniture you have good peace of mind with a 3-year guarantee (5 years on upholstery) – good to know when it comes to buying items online it can be harder to judge the quality of something.

The pieces I picked up from Heart of House are the Pineapple lamp (£22.49) and Pineapple lamp (£12.99).

I think I’ve pulled together a few of my favourite items to give it a bit of a casual styled feel. Including a fab little candle my Grandma gave me for Christmas from The Wee Candle Co. I have two of these and this one is so nice – it’s Candy Apple scented and I love that it was handmade in Glasgow. Where my Grandma lives – it’s a nice change to have something a bit more personal than the usual instagram fodder Diptyque (as much as I love it). Alongside the new ‘Turquoise’ perfume from Michael Kors. Which I love for both the fragrance and the bottle. Turquoise has long been my favourite colour so I felt I was going to love this almost regardless of what it smelt of! But luckily it has a gorgeous fresh, Summery scent.

Heart of House is certainly a homeware brand I would consider again. I bought some grey chenille blackout curtains as my husband works nights and I’m a bad sleeper. The chenille is a gorgeous, luxurious fabric that enhances my boutique hotel style bedroom.
