So-long Summer style – style staples I’m taking into Autumn

I’ve been trying my best to break some of my ‘jeans and t-shirt’ style rules – not that I think there’s a thing wrong with having style formula that works. But at the same time, it’s nice to try and break out a little and try new pieces. Along with a few all-time favourites that I would call my ‘can’t live without’ wardrobe items.

Switching out of jeans

Firstly, the wide legged trousers – these were actually a piece I bought out of necessity back in June/July when I had the operation on my leg (more on that here) which meant I had a bandage on for a couple of weeks. Didn’t really go with any flowy skirts or tight skinny jeans as it was a bit bulky to fit under tighter jeans. So I found these and knew they would work. Light and flowy enough to be comfortable in heat but also covered enough to conceal the bulky bandage.

Simple staples

Because the wide-legged trousers are quite out of my usual comfort-zone I teamed them with staple basics. My denim jacket I have had a loved for a decade… which I cottoned on to this year in the realisation I should probably retire it but it’s one of those pieces I just love and not ready to part with yet. That plus a simple grey t-shirt and some metallic sandals.

A classic beautiful bag

My favourite new wardrobe addition though – the bag – this is a beautiful new item that has been on my arm/shoulder almost daily since it arrived. You know those items you see and just fall head over heels for immediately? This was one of those. The bag is by a brand I really urge you to check out – Baia Bags – they make the most beautiful, hand-made, leather and suede bags. In simple, classic styles that are just beautiful if you want a bag that’s perfect quality and a style that will last forever. The things that won me over about this bag? Well, the colour – a beautiful soft dove grey – and the bucket bag, drawstring style*. I had been looking for something that had that casual but structured shape and this was just perfect. It ticked every box.

I absolutely ADORE this bag and have had so much use out of it already. I made sure I sprayed it with suede protector before using and whilst it has picked up a mark or two (I do have to be careful using the bag to avoid getting marks or liquid on it) it’s absolutely perfect for every day. It’s roomy and plenty of room for my camera, phone, wallet and beauty bag and umbrella or any of those other daily essentials. It’s so roomy, I’ve never had issues fitting a tonne of stuff in. Basically it’s the dream and one I will not be leaving in SS17. I love that grey goes with everything…

Small details

Another detail that’s been part of my daily outfit choices almost all Summer has been the navy Cath Kidston watch*. I’ll be totally honest and say some of the Cath Kidston prints are a bit too ‘twee’ for my tastes but this darker navy style with the floral face is much more me and I really like it. The navy is another of those shades that just goes with everything. I’ve always loved a good watch – probably my favourite piece of jewellery to wear every day.
