I am loving the latest deal from Superdrug, with ALL the make-up ranges being on a mix and match 3 for 2 – who doesn’t love a bargain. So, this week I picked up a couple of bits that I have had my eye on for a while and here is the review of the first of them (others still to come).
One of the things I bought was the L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagene Mascara in smokey black. I didn’t really know what to expect from ‘smokey’ black. I guessed it was either extremely black or a dark grey/black – when I opened the tube I realised it was the later, a dark grey black. This is actually really nice for me as pale-skinned blonde, super black can look a bit extreme for daytime so grey can be a tad more subtle.
I read a couple of reviews of this and it seems as though the general opinion of this is that it amazing. But I thought I would add my opinion into the mix…
What do I like about the mascara?
Quite a lot actually – I like the fat brush, I like the various length bristles and the tapered end. It makes applying it to all lashes easy. I do have a general preference for brush mascara applicators over comb applicators – probably because I have managed to poke myself in the eye a few too many times with the combs. I really like the dark grey colour, as mentioned above.
The shallow side of me also loves the fat tube and glossy black packaging.
I think the formula of this is really nice – it gives a decent amount of length and volume in a single application. A couple of coats and you can achieve a strong effect. The picture below shows how it looks with about 3 coats on the top lashes, but none on the bottom.
What do I not like about the mascara?
The only thing I am not as keen on with this mascara is the fact that it isn’t that easy to remove. Even using a cleansing oil and eye make-up remover followed by a face wash it still seems to leave me with panda eyes the next morning. Not a huge complaint really, but worth mentioning.
Would I re-purchase?
Yes. (nice and simple answer there!)
**The small print**
I bought this mascara with my own money, it was NOT provided for review purposes by the brand or anyone acting on behalf of the brand. All reviews are impartial and honest, regardless of the source of the product.
