I grew up loving boy-bands – it all started with Take That, of course (Mark was my favourite), I remember covering the walls of my bedroom with pictures pulled out of magazines of him when my best friend decided she preferred Robbie so switched allegiances so passed me all her previous obsession material. Along with a brief East 17 phase, and of course Boyzone there were the ultimate band of The Backstreet Boys – sure, when N*Sync came around I was a fan – but I’d always compare them.
The Backstreet Boys were always amazing,I distinctly remember doing a dance with three of my high school friends dressed in zombie versions of our school uniforms to Backstreets Back (did they actually go away at all at that point? Or was it just a catchy tune… I can’t remember). Basically, they were awesome and I loved them – but never had the chance to see them live. So when the lovely folk at Blow Ltd. invited me down to see them perform at the BST Hyde Park Festival recently, I didn’t think twice – I was in. Oh, and there’s a little bit of festival beauty in the post too…
BST Hyde Park was totally my sort of festival – in London, close to a tube, lots of nice street food stands, Pimms galore and no need to camp. Some say I’m getting old, but I just say I know what I like. Plus this one had the added bonus of being able to head to the VIP area with the Blow Ltd lot and experience the VVIP treatment – getting a hair, nail and make-up make-over in super quick time with lots of the Blow team working on you at once… basically like that shot of Giselle but without needing to nurse and infant at the same time.
I went for the waterfall braid, a silvery manicure and bronzey make-up look. I absolutely loved the bronze make-up look – I love how golden/bronze shades really make blue eyes pop so I knew this would be a winner. Plus it creates the illusion of a tan…always a plus. I also really like how the waterfall braid manages to really highlight the different tones of my hair – I never knew how much darker the lower layers of my hair are in contrast to the top!?!
Along with The Backstreet Boys there were also other bands like McBusted (who The Backstreet Boys were supporting… what sort of error is this… I suspect the running order was done by someone who was clearly born well after the early 90’s) but I’m not going to lie, I was there for the Backstreet Boys 100% and they did not disappoint. Even when a pretty torrential rain storm hit, it couldn’t dampen the spirits of the 14 year old girl in me…. despite it somewhat (understatement) dampening my freshly coiffed do… (see before and after…the rain – not the VVIP treatment!)
For those of you who share my love of the Backstreet Boys (then or now) then feel free to indulge in the little (slightly roughly filmed/edited) clip from the classic Backstreet tune… ah memories…
FYI – In case you were wondering, Brian was and is my favourite…. I’m just off to download the entire Backstreet Boys back catalogue…
