Ah mascara, my number one make-up item that I just couldn’t live without. Well, I could – but would spend my life resembling a mole-rat. This is the latest curvy little number from Lancome – Lancome Grandiose Mascara. I’ve always really loved Lancome Mascara – with the hypnose star being a long running favourite. This one breaks the ‘typical’ mould of mascara shapes in terms of packaging and wand – with an almost perfume-bottle like shape to the tube and a wand that whilst the wand head is fairly similar to typical styles, the wand itself curves around in a shape which Lancome refer to as ‘swan-neck’.
The ‘swan-neck’ wand is described in more detail by Lancome as ‘Offering a high-precision brush to grab lashes close to the roots and to perfectly fan them out, corner to corner.’ The promise being that the end result is a wide-angle fan effect.
I think the wand does make application feel quite easy as the shape of the brush lends itself well to sort of ‘pushing upwards’ the lashes, rather than combing through if you know what I mean?! The brush head is the plastic type with a mix of short and long bristles and think this would work really well if you have fairly long lashes already to give them a good dramatic coating. For my medium length lashes I think the main benefit is adding thickness over length as each lash was left dark and looking much thicker than they do naturally.
Overall, this is a good mascara and I love the new design look. But for me the Hypnose Star is still my personal favourite from Lancome (and actually a general all-time favourite). This is a good mascara to go for if you’re a sucker for pretty packaging (this one does look lovely) and have longer lashes that you want to add volume to – as it delivers volume really well.
