This is a little bit exciting – a new foundation from NARS. I’ve actually been testing and trying this for a month or two but only just allowed to tell you about it. When the brand behind the much-loved Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer launch something new for the face – it’s kind of a big deal. This new foundation – NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation – promises long wear, with a light feel… how does it perform though?

First things first, apologies for the joys of my make-up free face. And again on a Monday, it’s like I’m making a thing of make-up free Mondays or something… but when I last did a foundation review a lovely reader suggested showing the ‘before’ to help showcase how the foundation covers – so here we go… we have before, with just foundation, then with full face (other than lipstick – as was just wearing balm as my lips are taking their chapped-ness to a whole new level right now).
Secondly, I should note that the two shades of the new NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation are not the best matches for my skin tone. But have been blending them to try and find the closest I can. But am aware this isn’t the best shade match for me. The two shades I have are Light 3 ‘Gobi’ and Medium 4 ‘Barcelona’. In NARS Sheer Glow I’ve used Mont Blanc so technically Goji shouldn’t be far off, but was too pale, so I added a touch of Barcelona but this was far too dark and yellow toned for me. But still – to test the texture and finish is all good. Shade matching is another thing.
When it comes to application and finish this is a dreamy foundation. It feels super light and liquid – I used a buffing brush to apply as I normally tend to with liquid foundation. A little goes a long way with this – I used a single pump of each shade and it was probably a touch too much for my normal finish preference as I do tend to opt towards lighter finish generally. The finish really is the ideal balance between glow and great coverage. The coverage I would say is medium to high and buildable. With a truly flawless finish.
When I first wore it I asked Ollie (firstly just to check if my slightly-off shade blend looked a tad too orange) and his comment was the shade looked fine but ‘it did look like you’re wearing make-up’, when I guess he is used to me going for lighter/natural finishes generally. Not a bad thing, but worth knowing if you are like me and tend to lean towards the lighter end of the spectrum. I’m sure going light on product will of course lighten up the overall finish.
Overall I would definitely expect this foundation to be one popping up on many a blog and wish list. I’m expecting a huge amount of hype about this and for good reason. It really is an awesome formula – oil free, lightweight AND long wearing? Big thumbs up from me. The packaging of the foundation is also really lovely – frosted glass with a pump (yay for pumps!). Downside of glass is that it’s quite chunky so not great for portable if you like to take it out and about with you – but all being well 16 hours wear means you will be all good for touch ups so won’t need it.
There are a decent range of 20 shades of the foundation – from very pale to pretty dark so all being well there should be a shade for most as know this can be quite a challenge for some.

I love NARS products (especially their lip crayons!) but I’ve never tried their foundations before. This one sounds and looks so good. I was contemplating buying the sheer glow foundation, but this one sounds good if not better!

What’s this like on oily skin? I have Sheer Glow but it’s just not working with my oily skin π x
Does this foundation give the ghostly flashback with flash photography?
I haven’t found it does, but I don’t tend to use flash but studio lights.
Thanks for the review, really helpful. Why don’t you take the montblanc shade if you are happy with it in Nars sheer glow?
You should try Deauville…i think it would be your perfect match….you and i have the same skin tone…
I’m looking into buying this foundation. One question though, do you know if this transfers? I use a fixing spary regardless, but I’m curious to know if it transfers without a spray?
I tend to use a powder to set, I didn’t have any issues in general but probably wouldn’t expect to be able to put a White tshirt on without leaving marks on the collar!
