On Saturday afternoon I decided that I wanted to look a little less pale for my night out that evening. Of course I decided this at far too short notice and it was the middle of the day – so not really a prime time for slathering on a mud coloured solution that takes 4+ hours to develop. So I had a root around in my various tanners I have accumulated trying to find one that wasn’t messy and would develop in a max of two hours.
The only one I found (that wasn’t a wash off tanner) was Garnier Ambre Solaire Gloss Bronzer ‘self tanning gel with shimmer effect’. To be honest I didn’t have high hopes, I had a nasty feeling I was going to end up turning orange, with a pretty unpleasant smell to top it off. But I was left pleasantly surprised.
I donned my rubber gloves (sexy) and proceeded to slather the shimmering gel all over. The gel is slightly tinted, so I was left with an immediate hint of colour, plus a shimmering effect. I’m not a fan of looking shimmery/glittery all over but this was reasonably subtle. I planned to apply it, leave for around an hour then take a quick shower to shift some of the shimmer and prevent the fake-tan smell developing as the evening progressed.
Close up of the gel – you can spot the shimmer.
I was left with a subtle, natural looking tan that I was really happy with. I like how the gel texture absorbs easily and drys quickly – leaving skin feeling quite fresh and cool. I gave my skin a good inspection the day after in day light and couldn’t find any dodgy streaks. It smelt good at first but the fake tan smell did start to develop.
Overall – this is one that I definitely will be keeping in my last min beauty emergencies kit.
