Boots 17 Starry Eyes eyeshadow trios: Review

Boots 17 are releasing four new Starry Eyes eyeshadow trios just in time for Christmas. 17 is one of the makeup brands that I started out playing out with back when I was a teen – so will always feel a little bit nostalgic for me!

Because 17 is an affordable brand, it’s easy to assume the quality is going to be reduced to match the price – but with these shadows it’s not the case. The vast majority of colours are really impressively pigmented and smooth with gorgeous colours. I do say the vast majority because there are a couple of shades that aren’t quite as good as the others, but I’ll get to that when we get to the swatches!

The four sets (above) are called  (L-R starting at the top right) ‘Neptune’, ‘Starstruck’, ‘Moondust’ and ‘Galactic’. The stand out trios for me are ‘Neptune’ (the one with the gold) and ‘Galactic’ (the green one).

Swatches on the left are ‘Starstruck’
Swatches on the right are ‘Neptune’

Starstruck is the most ‘traditional’ smokey eye trio – with greys and blacks matched with a pale pink. The silvery grey is a gorgeous silky colour with gorgeous sheen (not glitter!) but the pale pink was quite chalky.

Neptune is a gorgeous trio that I can see myself using around the Christmas period for dark eye look that aren’t the standard shades and a bit more dramatic. The gold is silky and smooth, the dark grey has a bit of a sheen from some fairly fine glitter particles. The deep purple, aubergine-like colour is very well pigmented and I think would work really well with all eye colours to make them ‘pop’.

Swatches on the left: Moondust
Swatches on the right: Galactic

I don’t wear blue eyeshadow but if I you do then I suggest you check these out. The pale shade isn’t fantastic – not pigmented and has some glittery bits. But the two blue shades, the bright and the darker navy shade are both beautiful. You can see from the picture above how intense the colours are – the darker navy has a bit of glitter that gives it a pretty sheen.

This is my other favourite trio. The green shades area  way to throw a bit of the khaki trend into your make-up routine. The palest shade is a champagne gold, with a slight green undertone to it, the mid shade is a pretty khaki green with a golden sheen and the darkest shade is a rich green with some golden glitter.

So what do you think? Which trio stands out to you??

The Starry Eyes Trios are available from Boots for £4.99 each

I think Galactic and Neptune are definitely the stand outs for me. Gorgeous shades – I’m wearing the mid-green shade from Galactic today. Although am I the only one who thinks Neptune is a better name for the green one…?!

I bought two of these (Galactic and Neptune) and I really like them. I generally find 17 eyeshadows to be very good quality especially considering how cheap they are.
