Backstage at Todd Lynn: The Makeup

I was very lucky to be invited to go backstage at the Todd Lynn show in the main tent at Somerset house with Maybelline this season. It was absolutely fascinating to see that side of a fashion show in real life – I think the closest I’ve been is the backstage scenes in America’s Next Top Model or The Hills… but being there in real life was really exciting.

The look being created by UK make-up director for the brand – Sharon Dowsett – for the show was all about rich-girls on safari, where the sun has gone to her head a bit. It’s a natural, glowing look, with glowing radiance all down to a few key Maybelline product… their BB Cream, plus the new ‘Fit Me’ concealer (launching in the UK soon – already out in the US). The concealer was used under eyes and dabbed on lips to pale them out.
The star product for the look is a new shade in the Colour Tattoo range – the gorgeous Pink Gold. Pink Gold is exactly as it sounds, pink – shot through with gold. This was used to create glowy highlights all over the face.
Overall the look was absolutely stunning, so perfect for Spring/Summer and definitely one I plan to recreate – perhaps with a slight dial-up on the lashes front for me.
The nail look created by David Barton (not shown) included a layered blend of colours for something unique…including Sunday Rose, Taupe Couture, Grey Couture and Winner Takes it all.
It was such a buzz to be backstage, although I came away with serious cheek-bone envy and a bit baffled by the insane ability of models to do that thing where a camera is pointed at them and they do the smallest movement to morph into these uber-photogenic things, knowing all their angles and generally just making me feel a bit goofy and chubby-cheeked!
Whilst Spring/Summer 2013 feels like it’s a million years away, the nail combination is something I will be trying now. I love the idea of layering shades to create something grungy but pretty at the same time.
Thank you for having me backstage Maybelline, a definite highlight of my LFW September 2012 experience.
