Three Simple Things

In all walks of life, things can get a bit hectic sometimes and it can be easy to forget to take some time to just chill out. I absolutely adore blogging, and wouldn’t do it all on top of my day job if I didn’t – but as with all hobbies that you are dedicated to doing, things can get a little exhausting and busy and then the emails start to stack up and then you end up feeling like the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day at work is fire up the laptop and click away.

So I decided to dedicate a post to this and all the simple things I turn to when my slightly double-life – social media manager by day…blogger by night – (hardly like catwoman or something) starts to make me need to take a break.

three simple things
Now please don’t get me wrong, as I said I do adore blogging and there’s no-one but me out there who forces me to post as regularly as I do. But my blog means a lot of me, which means I want to make it the best I can – which can mean I pressure myself to take it quite seriously, post frequently and *try* to keep on top of the emails that come in – and since I’m human, and this can sometimes feel a little like it turns into a second full time job there are naturally times my motivation dips and so I take a break.

My number one trick to chill myself out is a long, hot, pampering bath. There’s nothing like it to ease away any worries or stress and literally wash the day away. Post-bath I feel rested and refreshed and ready to go onto phase two of my chill plan.
Phase two of chill time is to log off of the online world. No twitter, no facebook, no emails. No bloglovin… this is where Allure comes in. A slight cheat as I read this on my ipad – but nothing that turning off my wifi connection can’t stop me from the inevitable short-attention span making me want to check online every few moments.
I adore Allure – for over a year I’ve been using Zinio to subscribe to magazines – I used to read a few monthlies from here and the US but now find myself mostly reading the US mags that aren’t as easy to come by. Current favourites are Allure, Lucky and Self. I like to read mags on my iPad now as it means I can hoard all the copies I want, without the clutter. Plus it tends to be a cheaper option – there are often really good deals available (years subscription for $19.99 etc)
Then it’s time to continue the pampering – nail time! Taking the time out to give myself a proper manicure with all the tools/oils/clippers/coats needed to get a really good finish.
All of this is further topped off by the icing on the chill-out cake – a lovely candle burning. I don’t know what it is, but a candle burning really does help me relax – I think it’s the combination of scent and the gentle candle glow. Whatever it is, it just works. My new love is the NEOM Enchantment Candle* – it’s a new limited edition one from the brand with bluebell, rose and guaiacwood – and it smells like the end of Spring, start of Summer but in candle form. It’s gorgeous – I also love that it contains rose, a scent I’ve really been loving lately and find it definitely has calming properties for me. When it comes to candles – NEOM is pretty much the best all-round, the scent really fills your home, lasts and burns without leaving sooty marks. Well worth the investment.
And breathe…. time to refresh to keep my blogging mojo up!

Yep, all of the above help me to relax, I have Elle on Zinio, it’s really handy if you’re going somewhere as you can just have a read on the go. I find walking the dog or even just having a little cuddle with her is a good chill out tool too!

I bought the OPI Nail envy for sensitive and peeling nails the other day! I’m currently using it to see how it works

I totally agree, sometimes its so important to relax and de-stress. I really love candles as well, there’s something about them that just feels so relaxing and luxurious, and if you pick the right scent they just make everything smell delicious. I like a good old face mask as well, that always makes me feel very pampered.

I love sitting back to relax when there’s so much going on, and it doesn’t count as a proper pampering sesh without candles! I usually just go for plain tealights in nice candle holders, but I’ve been wishlisting a neom candle for months, they sound amazing!

Ahh didn’t know you could subscribe to Allure like that – thanks for letting us know. It’s always been my beauty bible but I hate having loads of tatty magazines around!
