When it comes to make-up collections, loads of them make me go ‘oooh, pretty’ but only a few of them make me literally stop in my tracks and decide I need them in my life. When I first saw the gorgeous AW 2013 YSL collection, this was one of those moments – in particular for two items from the collection. The stunning Classy ‘City Drive’ Palette – which I love both the packaging and contents of. And also for the lovely ‘Corail Urbain’ lipstick – yes, that’s right. Coral for Autumn – not the most traditional, but I adore coral and think that toned with the right shades – it can work year round.
So yes, the palette is one filled with gorgeous neutral shades – a mixture of warm and cool with taupes and pewters galore. I absolutely adore this quad of colours – I used all four to create the eyeshadow look in the photos above – the pale shade all over the lid, then the mid-toned bronze across the lid and crease, the darker taupe in the contour and to line and then the pewter under the lower lashes for a bit of definition and sparkle.
Then there’s the stunning packaging – it’s somewhat simple, but I love it. It grabs attention and manages to sit on that happy medium line between classy and in your face. I absolutely adore it and have it sitting happily on my desk next to me as testament to that fact!
Then there’s the Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in ‘Corail Urbain’ (shade 51) – a creamy, bright coral that to be honest – is totally odd for Autumn but that’s what I love about it. It’s perfect for the Indian Summer we seem to have missed this year, to keep that hint of warmer days showing – and I actually think it works really nicely with the combination of eyes shadows in the Classy palette.
This might sound like the worlds most obvious statement – but if you are to pick up anything from the YSL AW collection, I highly recommend these two beauties. Neutral and coral lovers delight – there’s a dream team that’s on-trend for the new season!
