Love or hate it, there’s no denying Valentines day is heading our way – and as one not to make too much of a fuss, but quite like the idea of a night of romance I decided to create a little easy Valentines look. As I said, I don’t like too much fuss, preferring to keep things simple. Maybe it just comes with living with your ‘Valentine’ (which is actually a legitimate name to call mine as it’s part of his family name…) but taking hours to get ready for something only tends to kill the romance! So I decided to go for a look that only really takes a handful of products to take you from normal day to loved-up in a few simple steps. Of course this could be any old date night, or just an easy make-up look. But hey – Valentines is looming, so thought I’d throw it out there.
So what are the essentials for an easy Valentines look? For me it’s all about natural skin, glowing cheeks, lashes and pink lips. But keeping the lips coated in balm rather than lipstick… no-one wants a post-snog lipstick covered face. Then the whole thing can be finished off with a spritz of your fave perfume.
For the base I used the simple combination of the Bourjois 123 CC Cream* in shade 32 Beige Clair, then a touch of the NARS Radiance Creamy Concealer* just where needed (a dab under the eyes and on any blemishes). Then for the glow I used the new YSL Spring 2014 look blush palette – which really is a beauty. It does have a touch of glitter in there, but a light dusting offers a peachy pinky glow that’s just lovely.
For lips I chose one of the Revlon Lacquer Balm shades – 120 Vivacious*. A bright pink that creates a lovely sheen on the lips. Just because my lips are really chapped at the moment I also added a slick of my current favourite Maybelline Baby Lips – the mint one.
Finally, keeping the eyes simple I went for the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara* which is my current daily go-to. I don’t think Bobbi Brown have ever not-impressed me with their mascara offerings – they’re seriously awesome. This one is ideal if you want dark, dramatic lashes, but prefer a fluffy brush and no-clumping.
Then finally I add a spritz of the new Balenciaga ‘Rosabotanica’ fragrance* which is a lovely variation of the original Florabotanica scent. The Florabotanica one wasn’t my thing – but this one has a slight rose-scented edge to it and is lovely. I found the Florabotanica a little heavy and overwhelming, but this feels lighter to wear but with those essential rose notes to get that true Valentines feel into the whole thing.
And that’s it, nice and simple but with just enough of a pinky glow to fool anyone you’re wafting around in a state of loved-up bliss! But as I said, love or hate Valentines… have a lovely Friday 14th Feb (and every other day in Feb of course)!
