Five Things: Lip Essentials

It’s that time of year when it gets colder outside and basically one of the first things to go on the Winter-skin front is the lips. I tend to need lip balm year-round, but certainly dial it up in the colder months. So I thought it would be a good time to take a look at five much-loved lip essentials of mine. To help keep your pout kissably-soft, whatever the weather!

So starting with the classic NUXE Reve De Miel *, this is a special limited edition version for the 20th anniversary of the balm. With different style packaging, same great product inside. I’ve gone through a good few of these little lip-happy tubs over the last few years. It’s a thick balm, the feels ever so slightly scrubby (rather than smooth) and for me this is my favourite for an overnight treatment. I apply a thick layer before bed, and let it work it’s magic whilst I snooze.

Next up we have Lanolips Strawberry * – I was at a recent event where I was on a blogger panel along with Hayley from London Beauty Queen and Jane from British Beauty Blogger. Whilst we were waiting to go on, we did what any normal beauty obsessives would do – and had a nosey at what products we all deemed essential enough to be in our day to day bags. The one thing we all had in common – Lanolips. It’s that good. This strawberry flavour is my favourite so far – really packs a hydrating punch, leaves lips with a nice (non sticky) shine and the tube packaging means no mess to apply.

When my lips get really dry and I need a super fast fix I reach for La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Lips balm *. If your lips are chapped to the point of soreness, then this is perfect as instantly creates a soothing barrier to prevent the dreaded lip-licking/making it worse habit.

Then we have my favourited balm with a tint – Maybelline Babylips in Cherry. Firstly, I love cherry flavour anythigng. Secondly, I’m a total sucker for babylips. This goes alongside Lanolips in my handbag so I have option of adding a subtle bit of colour as well as hydration. I tend to opt for this over a nude lipstick day to day at the moment as it’s just that bit easier to apply on the go as just needs a simple slick of colour and you’re set.

Last but by no means least I have my ‘desk’ lipbalm (yes, that’s right – I have different balms for different areas of life! Eve Lom Kiss Mix is the one that sits in my top desk drawer (alongside a few other things I reach for in the day – hand cream, eye gel, cuticle cream etc). This is a quite light but creamy feeling lip balm, the packing isn’t as good for on the go as it’s one you need to stick your finger in! I also find it leaves a bit of a white film on the lips. So for that reason I keep it for desk days at home. It does however work great as a prep for lipstick – as really hydrating and feels nice to have on the lips.

There we have a little round up of five favourite lip essentials for Autumn/Winter (and year round really!). Any favourites of yours in there – or ones you love that I missed?!

I’ve been eyeing off that Eve Lom lip balm for a while now! I thought I was the only one to have a lip balm for different areas too haha. My friends don’t quite get it..
In Australia we have this amazing product called Lucas’s Paw Paw ointment and it’s an absolute life saver. I have a tub of it sitting beside my bed, a tube in my bathroom, a tube in my handbag and another in my school bag. Just a tad obsessed… xx

Maybelline Babylips doesn’t work that well for not. It’s just not moisturizing enough. 🙁 But the lanolips balm sounds great! I’ll definitely check that out.

I also use the Nuxe Reve De Miel lip balm overnight, but have yet to pick up the new packaging. It’s adorable!

I swear by the Bite Agave Lip Mask – it’s super thick, sweet smelling / tasting, and even MORE nourishing than the Nuxe Reve de Miel. I have incredibly dry lips year-round, but the Bite mask at night and the Nuxe during the day keep things soft and supple.

I use the Nuxe Rêve de Miel every night before bed and can’t live without it! It’s too thick for me to use during the day, so I need a good daytime balm. I’d love to try the Eve Lom one, as everything I’ve tried from that line is wonderful.
