I’ve been a tad obsessed with this collection ever since I first spotted it – a capsule collection of four red lipsticks. Each created to be the perfect match for different skin tones thanks to the very subtle shade differences between each lipstick. Of course, as with the L’Oreal Nudes Collection each lipstick is matched to a L’Oreal poster girl – with Blake Lively being my current girl-crush I knew I had to track down the full set, including hers. Let’s take a little look at the L’Oreal Red Lipstick Collection (or ‘L’Oreal Collection Exclusive’ if you’re getting all formal about it).
These are all four shades from the collection, going from left to right in all photos: Eva’s Pure Red*, Liya’s Pure Red*, Julianne’s Pure Red, Blake’s Pure Red. As I said, the subtleties between each one are what makes each one work – but not all that easy to capture perfectly on camera. But essentially – Eva’s has a touch of orange under tone to it but very much a classic true-red. Liya’s is a tad brighter than Eva’s, but still very classic a red with slightly pinker tones. Julianne’s is the more pink-red shade and the brightest of the bunch. Then Blake’s is the more Crimson shade.
I do really love wearing red lipstick and actually really like all of these shades. I think Julianne’s and Blake’s are probably my favourites, but it’s a really tough call. I like them all – I think Blake and Julianne’s are the two that seem most different, which is why I wonder if these are my favourites? It’s hard to tell to be honest.
One of the things I have noticed and really like in using these shades (and the other Nude ones too) is the shape of the bullet of the lipstick – it comes to quite a precise point at the end. Which does lend itself well to application without needing a lip liner to get a neater edge. I tend to keep my lipstick application fairly simple – maybe not always the most perfect, but if it gets too complicated (ie liner/blotting/re-applying/fixing…etc) I’mm more likely to give up and just grab a lip balm! I do pull out the full routine for some special occasions – but day to day, keep it simple.
These lipsticks are some of the nicest on the market. I think both L’Oreal and Rimmel together basically have the lipstick market for the high street covered.
What are your thoughts on these four reds? Any favourites?
