Now, you might want to be sitting down for this. But I have something to share with you. When I was in America recently, I didn’t go into a Sephora. I KNOW shocking. But there was good reason – I’m back in the US next month so knew I had some prime shopping time ahead of me so focussed on Disney fun, but did squeeze in a little US drugstore haul of course. I love a US drugstore haul – sometimes even more so than a Sephora spree. I know, don’t tell anyone I said that as know it’s basically against #bblogger code. But let’s take a little look at the drugstore bits I did pick up.
I didn’t buy masses of stuff this time around and a few are key essentials needed for my trip when I was there. Some of the products are stock up items for things I’ve tried before and loved. Others are US launches that are out there ahead of hitting the UK market.
Olay Shower Gel – I didn’t take a shower gel with me as pretty much always rely on the hotel or pick up one out there. This stuff smells amazing, but I did just have to leave the small amount left at the end behind as had to be ruthless to get my bag under the weight limit.
Flexitol Heel Balm – Oh yeah, it’s all glamour being on holiday. Actually, I had read that this stuff is basically a magic potion quick fix for dry heels and feet. The rumour was true, this stuff works a treat and kept my feet soft after days pounding the streets of Disney. Will re-stock on this one.
Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport SPF 30 & Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50 (handbag size) sprays
I am a big fan of the US sun screen and wish we had more similar formulas in the UK. The clear sprays that just mist on and protect are ideal for someone like me who hates applying sun cream on the go. I have no issue with wearing it and always want to be protected, I just hate having cream all over my hands at any time when it’s not super easy to get it washed off. I love these little handbag size sprays being so tiny they’re really convenient for day trips and out and about.
Banana Boat Sport Cool Zone SPF50+ & Coppertone Clearly Sheer SPF30
Along with the travel sizes, I also picked up two larger size sprays in SPF 30 and SPF 50+ to make sure I could over apply and make sure I was protected whilst distracted by the joy of Disney and basking in the Miami sun. I wanted one that was super high SPF for days by the pool or at water parks so I didn’t risk burning at all and then a slightly lower (but always SPF 30 or above) that was easy to spray on for day to day wear.

Sinful Colours Kylie Jenner Collection ‘Kommotion’ & Cover Girl Outlast in 307
The Sinful Colours shade was just one I liked from the collection. I do love a cornflower blue type shade and this one caught my eye immediately. It’s from the ‘Trend MATTers’ collection – it’s a ‘velvet’ finish and described as a dark blue pearl but I’d call it more cornflower with golden shimmer personally. It’s lovely but I will be putting a glossy top coat on it to give it some shine. Then I picked up the Cover Girl as it was the closest match the L’Oreal one I was wearing on my toes for the holiday as I forgot to take the bottle with me and whilst it lasted so well I did manage to scuff/chip it a but at Blizzard Beach and wanted to touch it up!
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick ’20 Electric Pink’ & Maybelline Colour Blur ’45 I’m Blushing’
Two Maybelline lip colours that I believe will hit our shores soon, but not made it yet! I wanted to see what the fuss was about ahead of them launching and couldn’t resist the super-brightest pink shade. It’s impressive. Think MAC Candy Yum Yum in liquid lipstick form. Then to balance it out I went for a more subtle rosy shade of the Colour Blur lipstick. I haven’t tried this one yet so need to give it a whirl and report back.
Neutrogena Revitalising Lip Balm
This is one I had before but passed on to a friend before I even tried it so wanted to pick up another so I could give it a whirl myself. Anything promising to do a bit of a ‘my lips but better’ trick is a winner for me. So will see how it goes!
Jergens BB Body (Light) & Orbit Wintermint
Yep, that’s right – that’s a chewing gum I’ve included right there. I love this flavour and always stock up when I’m in the US. I wish they sold it over here! Then I also picked up another back up of the Jergens BB Body – a product I first tried back in July last year when I was in Texas and loved it so much I picked up another to bring home and again felt the need to stock up. This is what they call a ‘skin perfecting’ cream with both an instant effect (slight sheen and hydration) and over five days (claims to even, firm and correct). Honestly I don’t know what it does exactly but I know my skin looks better without it and can’t get enough whenever I have to bare limbs. It doesn’t contain fake tan but just seems to blur/even any redness and hydrates and seems to work well on KP on my arms too. It’s an instant confidence boost and will always stock up on this.
What I’d like to know, is what other drugstore gems do I need to look out for on my next US visit?! Any brands I’ve missed and need to have a browse of?! Also…where is your favourite place to shop drugstore wise in NYC?!
All bought by me.
