Jo Malone have a new intense fragrance – Jo Malone Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Cologne Intense. But before I get to that, a little ramble from me. I didn’t used to like the smell of Jasmine at all. But if one thing changed it, it was a weekend in Venice staying at the gorgeous JW Marriott Venice in 2016. I absolutely fell in love with Venice and the Isola Delle Rose wasn’t just covered in gorgeous white roses but also tonnes of jasmine and it smelt just heavenly. Now every time I smell anything jasmine related it takes me right back to that wonderful weekend exploring the canals and enjoying gorgeous Italian food.
But travel flashbacks from me aside, that’s just a little context to loving the scent of jasmine. But back to the new launch from my faves Jo Malone. A new Cologne Intense – also known as the black bottle with a more heady/intense scent than the core range. This one takes jasmine as it’s key note (there’s a clue in the name on that to be fair). Not just any old jasmine though but ‘Jasmine Sambac’ which is described as the ‘queen of jasmine’ which is used in India where women put it in their hair for various rituals. Who can blame them, it smells gorgeous.
What I would say about this is that it’s a somewhat lighter take on the usual Cologne Intense fragrance. Where usually when I try the black-bottle launches from Jo Malone I tend to expect something heady and with a bit more of an ‘oud’ side to it. But this one is something different. It is a fairly strong scent, as you would expect but not intimidatingly so.
If you love jasmine like I do, then this is an ideal evening fragrance for you – a dialled up version of other lighter versions of the fragrance. Or if you want a jasmine scent that lasts then this is just perfect as the more intense scent lasts. I love the core range White Jasmine and Mint (it was one of my wedding day scents) but this is something different – more heady, less fresh.
