Salon review: The London Organic Hair Salon

Welcome to the first hair salon review on Beautyjunkielondon, and for the first review we have a slightly unusual concept: The London Organic Hair Salon.

Recently opened, in Beckenham, the salon uses only organic products. The top treatment is the unique ‘seaweed enlightening’, an organic version of highlights. By replacing the nasty bleach with a 100% amonia-free, lightening concoction containing seaweed extracts to condition whist lightening this treatment is one of those things that make you ask- ‘why didn’t they do this earlier?’. The treatment comes with a healthy amount of scepticism- how is seaweed going to manage to lighten my hair as effectively as bleach? If this is so great they why aren’t they doing it everywhere?

Now for the review, I already have very blonde hair so I thought it would be better to send along someone where the difference will be noticeable- so I sent along my lovely friend LW to test the treatment out. To put the treatment in context, LW started out with rich brown hair and is no stranger to dying her hair- so is familiar with the slight danger factor that going shades lighter can pose- you can end up a rather nasty, brassy, ginger. Thankfully, this was not the case at The London Organic Hair Salon.

LW reported back that the salon was easy to find, and on the surface appears very much like a normal, fairly posh hair salon. On arrival LW was greeted by stylist Kate, whilst appearances said ‘posh’ (read: snooty) both Kate, and assistant Sarah were both friendly and down to earth with none of the snootyness that you often find in up-market (again, read: snooty) salons.

The initial colour consultation worked as a two-way process, with LW explaining what she wanted and Kate suggesting some things herself. When they moved on to the colouring process LW was pleased to find that the “The dying process was the same as usual, using foils, but the dye didn’t have the horrible stingy ammonia bleachy smell. In fact it smelled quite nice.”

Now, I know how nasty the strong ammonia smell can suck, and make your eyes water and generally be quite unpleasant, so this is a major plus.

But what really matters is the results…..drum roll please……pleased to announce that LW’s hair is as blonde, if not more blonde than bleach usually makes it. As if that wasn’t enough, her hair feels good as apparently the natural plant oils help repair hair whilst dying it. In her own words “I’m extremely happy with the result and would definitely go back again.”

Success all round then. The only scepticism that I am left with is- ‘As the treatment is great, so why on earth are they not doing it in all salons?!’

A half head of highlights at The London Organic Salon costs £55, around the same price as a normal salon. So well worth making the switch from old-school bleach to get your hair sun-kissed this summer.

Makers of organic hair care products tout that if you use their product… gels and sprays from a hair salon rather than off a shelf.

SALON COLCHESTER– make an appointment for a good haircut. Photos are a fact of life, so tackle that potential stress factor by getting the best haircut you’ve had all year. Get some flattering foil highlights or hand painted colour put in and take care of your overgrown brows before someone posts a horribly unflattering phone photo on Facebook. Find a good brow threading artist and take care of your brows.

I had my hair cut at London Organics in Beckenham by Laura and it’s probably the worst hair cut I’ve ever had!The stylist done what she wanted rather than what I wanted and the result is dreadful. I can’t wait for it to grow out and I’ll never go back.

Having read the previous review I can only say I wish I’d read it sooner. I had a long graduated bob which just needed tidying up. I clearly explained exactly what I wanted but the end result is absolutely nothing like it should have been. I wanted the length kept, result a short uneven ‘graduated’ bob which has left my hair shorter on one side with great chunks missing. It is the most awful cut I’ve ever had and I detest it. I wish I was brave enough to go back and complain but I don’t want Laura near my hair ever again. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it so be warned!!!

I wish I had read the reviews before I had visited the salon.I had my hair coloured by Laura, she ended up being a very rude lady. Having dark Asian hair, I asked for a all over colour with brown highlights, instead I got the bottom 1/3 a dirty reddy brown colour and the rest was bleached, to a disgusting yellow colour, hair falling out in clomps.I was horrified, felt like crying, then on top off that, I got attitude. In the end she promised me a complementary all over hair colour and a blow dry because she knew she had damaged my hair. She was very unprofessional, Can’t understand how she is a hair dresser at that salon, she lets done the salon. Not long ago I rang up and was told they could not offer me this.Never never will I be visiting her or the salon again.
