QVC Beauty Awards: Make Up

I’m a little late on this one (eek, bad blogger!) but a little earlier in the Summer, QVC announced it’s shortlist and then winners for it’s beauty awards. I was given the chance to play with the products that were shortlisted and then share my thoughts – having had chance to have a proper play here they are! These are the products that made the shortlist in the make-up category…

So we have:

Mally Volumising Mascara

I actually wasn’t too familiar with the brand Mally, but this is a really nice mascara. It has the fluffy brush that I personally prefer and delivers a decent amount of pigment, without going spidery at all. It does take some layering if you want a dramatic look though.

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer

I really like Bare Minerals Foundation but never thought to use a primer underneath it before. It’s a light weight one that does leave skin silky smooth and ready for make-up application but I do find it tends to slip off on oilier areas of my face. So yes, it primes – but if you have even slightly oily skin then it might not be ideal for you.

YBF (Your Best Friend) Automatic Eyebrow Pencil

Bit of a cheesy brand name, but really lovely product. Like the Mally Mascara, it isn’t a brand I was really aware of before (it’s nice that QVC isn’t just the big names). The shade for this was a great middle of the road shade – if you have really pale or really dark brows then this shade probably isn’t ideal but anywhere in the middle ground and you’re sorted. It has the two-in-one appeal as there’s the pencil end plus the brush for taming the strays.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick

A cult product if ever there was one – it’s got a good reputation for a reason. It delivers a shimmering glow with a blend of the shades in the cube. The shimmer brick was also my first ever ‘high end’ make-up item (thanks to my Aunty Barbara) and I thought I still had it but couldn’t track it down in my collection recently. I’m sure it’s somewhere though so might have to do a comparison post…vintage Bobbi vs new Bobbi. For me, the only downside of this is that it’s very shimmery so isn’t really daylight friendly – but for night, the glow it offers is hard to beat.

So for me which is the winner? I’d choose the YBC Automatic Eyebrow Pencil – it’s multi-tasking, a good colour match for a range of shades and one small thing that makes a real difference to your look.

What was the actual winner? The Bare Minerals Primer! Voted for by customers, so well done to Bare Minerals!

I was going to try this primer but I’m glad you mention that it’s not suitable for oily skin – saved me lots of money!

Just fyi- the YBF brow pencil is supposed to adapt to your own coloring I’ve learned . Its universal, hence the color name of the product. I have dark brows and it works like a dream. My fave brow pencil ever.
