I was recently sent some bits from the MeMeMe range to review as a bit of an introduction to the brand, as it wasn’t one I had covered before on this blog. Of the bits that I was sent there was one thing that immediately stood out to me, and that was the Metallic Ultra Gloss Nail Polish in ‘Pewter’.
Something about the colour just grabbed me immediately, Pewter is the perfect name – it’s a not quite gold, not quite silver, not quite bronze metallic shade. It’s quite unusual whilst also managing to be quite classic too.
When I tested it out, it wasn’t just the colour that impressed me. The polish is quite highly pigmented, although two coats would be necessary to make sure the colour is really even. The formula is smooth and glides on easily. It also dries quickly as it is quite thin – I prefer thin formula polishes to thick (would rather paint two fast-dry coats than one thick that takes ages to dry).
The picture above shows just one coat over a base, with no top coat. The metallic finish does mean that there are some marble-like streaks, but this is a nice part of the effect rather than a criticism. I really like the metallic finish on nail colours, I think they look so much nicer than just a flat cream colour.
Wear wise, it doesn’t fare too badly. I got through about 3 days without it chipping (with top coat) but there was some tip-wear after a couple of days. Still, not bad for a product that sells for around £4 (and in the three for two at Superdrug at the moment…)
I guess the main positive of this is that I like this colour so much that I am going to go and pick up some more from the range. I have my eye of ’emerald’ or ‘aqua marine’ for my next purchases…
