Neutrogena Multi Defence Daily Moisturiser

I’ve been using these two moisturisers since around Mid Feb, and now feel in a position to give them a decent review. The on on the left is aimed at all skin types and is fragrance free and contains SPF 25 and the one on the right is for dry/sensitive skin types and is SPF 15 (I would have thought dry/sensitive types could benefit from SPF 25 too?).

Both come in a plastic bottle with pump at the top – which I like as it’s hygienic and portable. Plus because it’s not glass they aren’t likely to break and are lighter to carry.

Texture wise, I can’t see the difference between the two – they both feel equally moisturising and absorb just as quickly. I find these OK for day time, but sometimes I need to apply twice to make my skin feel as moisturised as I would like. Obviously as they contain SPF they aren’t designed for night time use, but if you choose to do so then I expect you would feel they weren’t really moisturising enough.

Although I have been using these for quite a while (about 8 weeks) over the past couple of weeks I have started to notice that sometimes when I apply them my skin feels like it has a bit of a greasy layer/residue after applying. I haven’t changed anything else about my skin care routine other than the moisturiser for day time so I can’t really be sure why this is. It doesn’t cause any big problems at all, just feels a bit odd. It might just be that I am applying too much so it takes a while for it to sink in.

The best thing for me about the products is that the SPF does offer great protection – and I put this to the test over the last couple of weekends when London was lucky enough to experience the rare phenomenon of sunshine and warmth. Having spend days on both weekends taking long walks around either the South Bank or various London parks and catching the sun a little on my arms my face stayed fully protected. I plan to take the SPF 25 version of these away on holiday with me when I go for daytime use.

Overall – if you have normal skin then I think these are great for daily moisturising and protection for the sun but if you have dry skin you might not find it moisturising enough (even the dry skin version).

The moisturisers RRP £7.49 and are available from

    Thanks for the review!

My partner works outside and I was considering getting her the SPF25 one for the summer. I think I might try it out now!

I have been using this too and I have to agree with your comment about the layer of residue. I find it can make my skin go funny after a day at work and make up. Not sure if I would buy it agin. But we will see.
