Clarins Everlasting Foundation

I should really do a post on the various foundations I have been using and loving recently as there are about 4/5 that I am using day to day, but switching between – depending on what level of coverage/staying power I need and how lazy I’m feeling with application….

But to start with, here is one that I have been using for around a month and really like – Clarins Everlasting Foundation (shade 105). I say I really like, rather than love, because whilst I love the texture/finish/staying power, I do find it a little hard to work with and the matte finish isn’t quite matte enough for what I’m looking for.

Not that I’m like Goldilocks with her porridge or anything… but I am pretty fussy when it comes to foundation. Especially a matte foundation, I want it to be actually matte – as in no shine, there are so many (not actually including the Clarins in this) that I have applied and my skin has been left looking still shiny. Not a happy bunny when this happens. But saying that, I don’t want it to be too matte and look like I have a deathly pallor or something. I want to look healthy, but not greasy. It’s a fine line.

Anyway, Goldilocks tendencies aside, back to the Clarins. After all that I don’t count this as a fail in the matte category, it keeps oil under control – but not totally shine free. I find it copes better at weekends than for a whole day in the office.

I would describe the coverage of this foundation as medium and build-able, but it’s definitely one that I find is better used on the lighter side. It might just be my personal preference, but I find it hard to get a nice finish if I use too much of this, I find one pump is plenty for the whole face. Of course others might prefer to use a bit more product, but as someone who prefers light-medium coverage, one is fine for me.

I’m wearing the Clarins foundation in this pic from when I dyed my hair

What I have been loving with this foundation though is using it mixed with a bit of Bourjous Healthy Mix Gel foundation – this is currently my favourite face base of choice. I find the Healthy Mix gel makes the colour a slightly better match for my skin tone at the moment (the Clarins is ever so slightly on the pale side and the Healthy Mix ever so slightly too dark, but together they work) and something about the combination of the matte finish Clarins and the slightly more glory Bourjois leaves me very happy. Dusted over with a bit of MAC MSF natural, and I have a base that can survive a work day with a little bit of patting of powder on the nose.

My overall view of the Clarins foundation – I do really like it, but not quite love. It has made me very curious to try one of their other foundations – the ‘Skin Illusion’ one, that I have heard many other bloggers rave about! If you have tried this, let me know what you think of it.

I’ve never thought about trying Clarins makeup – I’m always looking for new foundations though, so this is one to add to the list! x

Good review. I am particular about matte foundations too. Have you tried M.A.C? It’s got good matte effect.

Clarins is a brand that’s really off my radar…I never seem to really think about it or consider it but I might have to go and have a little look as I need/want a new foundation!
