Jamie’s Italian, Angel

A little something different for a Sunday post… a food one!

This week I popped along with the boyfriend to Jamie’s Italian in Angel…as a bit of a carb addict, Italian has to be my favourite type of food and I’ve wanted to go to one of the many branches of Jamie’s for a while.
When I say I’m a carb addict, then Jamie’s is a carb-lovers dream… from the amazing bread selection (the squishy one with olive oil and rosemary was my favourite) to the delicious pasta….so good.

Starters wise, I went for Baked Chestnut Mushrooms – which was a huge dish (huge for a starter) with a crispy bread base, then filled with melted mozzarella and mushrooms. So tasty, not one for those on a diet (this sort of dish is the reason I *should* be on a diet).

The boy had an amazingly presented… although slightly unusual spaghetti dish called ‘Sicilian Spaghetti Fritters’… The tomato sauce it came with was very tasty, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the crispy spaghetti texture – felt a bit like it just wasn’t cooked, or it was burnt? But again, very impressive presentation!

Mains wise, one of my favourite things was that you can order a small or a large portion – I opted for a small, since I have a tendency to overeat when eating out…it just tastes too good, I loose the will to stop when full!
I had the Mini Meatball Carbonara – the pasta was cooked to perfection. The sauce and the meatballs were also delicious, but I can’t help but think they didn’t really go well together… the meatballs felt much better suited to a tomato or creamier sauce, but the sauce was lemon-cream… delicious, but odd taste combo!
The boyfriend went for the South Coast Fritto Misto – basically a fried sea food platter. Again, presented amazingly, with a huge crispy wall of something that looked like pasta, but not really edible… somewhat pointless, but very impressive presentation! Best part… the side of chips. They were delicious!

So, I’m no food critic – but wanted to share my thoughts in case anyone was thinking of visiting Jamie’s. Overall – the food is good, but the presentation is the main wow factor. The service is good and price-wise it’s reasonable. I’d definitely go again, but would try something else from the extensive menu.

Ah, writing this has made me hungry!!!
Have you been to this (or another) branch of Jamie’s? What did you think??

Ate at the Reading branch once. Worst, most overpriced, most over-hyped Italian meal I’ve had in my life, and dreadful service too. We ended up getting the entire bill refunded once we complained to head office. Have never been back, and will never give Jamie Oliver a penny of my money ever again.

I have been to the one in Cheltenham which is fab… it is in an old Magistrates courts, and in one of the rooms you can sit in the dock! I had a seafood linguine which was delicious….my bf had a burger and fries and they were also lovely. We will definitely be going back 🙂

I walk past the Angel Jamie’s Italian everyday on the way to work and am always tempted by the little coffee truck – so cute! x
