Ah Essie, how do I love thee… what is it about Essie that just grabs my beauty-loving attention so much? Is it the neat to store yet cute-looking bottles? The shade names? The quality? The Colours? I think it’s a bit of all of them! The latest AW collection is no different – it’s made up of six shades – a mixture of the typical AW darks and some interesting alternative shades in there for good measure…all with cute knitwear related names. Which basically make me want to just find the nearest blanked and have a nap or something. Or paint my nails…either one. Perhaps even both!?
Anyway, here are the shades…
So in terms of the fairly usual darker shades we have Twin Sweater Set – the deep red. Plus After School Boy Blazer – a deep navy. That has been getting a few bloggers all over excited. It is a good colour – a lovely deep navy that is impressively pigmented (one coat is pretty much perfect, two is flawless) but I have to say – as nice as it is, and as much as I adore blues…it’s not all that unique in the bunch. There are lots of other similar shades out there, but if you’re looking for a dark navy then you can’t go wrong with this one for quality.
On the more interesting shades we have The Lace is On – a bright fuchsia shade with shimmer. Different for AW but not mind blowing. The three special shades to me are For the Twill of It – which is basically a petrol-spill duo chrome (you know when petrol spills and creates that shimmering multi-shade sheen? It’s like that) then there’s Vested Interest that manages to look different in different lights – sometimes green, sometimes grey, sometimes blue. Then Cashmere Bathrobe that’s a pretty petrol blue grey shade with shimmer that manages to look dark and moody, but still quite subtle and classy at the same time.
My top pick of the collection? Vested Interest first, then After School Boy Blazer second.
