One Brand Face: NARS

Time for another face filled with one brand and one brand only – this time with the much justified bloggers favourite – NARS. NARS is one of those brands that has an across the board reputation. Not just a few stand out products, but one that you can pick anything – skin care, foundation, blusher (oh the blushers…) concealers, eyeshadow…. the list goes on. It’s a brand that consistently launches products that become blogger holy grail (Sheer Glow, Orgasm, Radiant Creamy Concealer…). So with that little intro – I have a one brand face dedicated to NARS. With a few cult classics in there and a few products that are lesser talked about, but perhaps should be!

For this face I used the following… for a prep I used the NARS Skin Optimal Brightening Concentrate. Technically more of a serum than a primer, but works amazingly – delivers a subtle glow and hydrates at the same time. For a lazy or good skin day, this alone can look gorgeous as it just evens out skin that bit with its own sheeny glow. Then I used the famous Sheer Glow in the shade Mont Blanc – Sheer Glow is one that I’ve heard so many amazing things about, but didn’t think was for me. A few years ago, in the early days of blogging I gave it a go in a Space NK store but didn’t love the finish – in hindsight I think it was purely that I didn’t like the way the MUA applied the foundation – heavier than I would wear it and with a foundation brush, where I prefer a buffing brush or sponge. I found this out when playing with it myself and learning that this one actually works amazingly well – and I finally (yes, late to the party on this one) get what everyone was raving about! It’s a good medium coverage foundation that leaves skin perfected, flawless and still with a glow and naturally finish. Only downside – the bottle doesn’t come with a pump! But that’s a very small detail for what is an absolutely gorgeous foundation.

Then, just where needed I pop a little bit of the equally gorgeous Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. Another one that’s much raved about and well deserved – this baby is creamy, pigmented, smooth and when applied it’s budge-proof. Amazing stuff and will hide a multitude of sins.

For the cheeks I added a combo of cult classic shades – Orgasm, with a touch of both the multiple and the blusher. So a double hit of that glowy pinky peachy wonderful ness. Personally, the blusher is my absolute favourite – winning out over the multiple version ever so slightly. But the combo does make for a long-lasting glow – the multiple for the first layer, then topped off with a dusting of the matching powder for added pop and to ‘set’.

For the eyes I used the Kuala Lumpur eyeshadow duo – I’m a big fan of the eyeshadow duos. NARS manages to do duos in shades that I wouldn’t predict, yet work perfectly – the Kuala Lumpur mix is the perfect example. Of all the duos out there, it’s not necessarily the first I’d reach for – but the rich purple and the pinky golden shade combine perfectly. I think the pinky golden shade works a treat to compliment blue eyes and the purple is lovely for a bit of definition, that’s a break from the brown or black norm. This look was then topped off with a lashing of the Larger Than Life Volumising Mascara – mascara has to be the only product from NARS that maybe doesn’t *quite* get the same raves as the other products in the range, but I really like it. I also used a touch of the Yamal matte eyeshadow single to fill in the brows.

The finishing touches for this came in the form of the lips being topped off with a coat of ‘Sex Machine’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil – love this shade. A gorgeous ‘my lips but better’ type of colour. The the skin had a dusting of the Light Reflecting Setting Powder in ‘Translucent Crystal’ – a sort-of scary looking powder that’s a bright white pressed powder with a subtle light-reflecting sheen in it that manages to set skin to a matte but healthy look. It was one I was thinking might be a little ‘Twilight’ with the shimmer but I actually find it’s more in the Hourglass Ambient Light sort of family – a glow that’s not glittery.

My top picks from this one-brand-face – Radiant Creamy Concealer, Sheer Glow, Sex Machine Lip Pencil and Yamal Eyeshadow…and Orgasm Blusher!
