A girls night in, is basically one of my favourite things to do. Maybe it’s just a sign I’m getting old, but I would hands down feel that a night in is far preferable to a night pushing and shoving to get to a busy bar to try and shout over music to hear what my friends are saying. Ok, yes – that does make me sound old. That’s not to say that I don’t love a good night out – but the ratio of nights out/in is usually in the favour of in when it comes to seeing the girls. That’s partly because my blog life does tend to get very busy, so when I see the girls it’s good to actually be able to chat and gossip!
I’m sure most people are well and truly versed in the whole ‘girls night’ thing, but I thought I would share my ultimate ‘formula’ to the perfect girls night in – since according to a recent survey 70% of women prefer a girls night in.
A selection of friends – Duh. Yes, you need your friends for a girls night in. Or else it’s just a night on your own. Not much fun to gossip alone now is it?!
Three parts pizza (or other ‘naughty’ food) – I think a ratio of around 2/3 of pizza (plus maybe a touch of garlic bread for a full-on carbicide session) is ideal per person. More if you’re hungry. Alternatively you can supplement pizza for any of the following:
– Kettle Crisps
– Various chocolate based options
– Vegetable crudites and hummus dip (not my personal preference, but a girl likes to have options)
Two parts girly films – the sort you have all seen a million times and love, but can recite line for line. So you can watch and enjoy – but can also chat inbetween without losing track of the oh-so-complicated plot… My personal girls-night favourites: Mean Girls, Clueless and Sex and the City. Possibly throw in a bit of The Devil Wears Prada too.. why not.
A dash of Prosecco – I find it makes any night with the girls better. If in doubt, add some bubbles I say. Of course if you’re not old enough to drink, diet coke does the job, or schloer for that almost-like-wine feeling. I sometimes will drink it out of a wine glass, just to feel more grown up (yes, I am that cool).
A generous serving of face masks – A touch of pampering is always welcome. But it’s not appropriate to start shaving your legs or waxing your ‘tash at a girls night (hey, each to their own if that’s what you and your mates get up to!). But a face mask sesh is always fun. My personal current favourite all-rounder mask is the Organic Surge ‘First Class’ mask.
A handful of nail varnish – Painting nails is always a feature at girls nights. My girls love to have a riffle through my excessive beauty collection and pick out some shades to try. It’s always nice to have that time to do a proper mani routine too – cuticles, filing, oil…the works. Before even getting on to the paint job.
And voila! There we have my ultimate recipe/formula for the perfect girls night in. Let me know what yours is…and what your fave girls night in films are!
