Glossy Box January 2014

Glossy Box January 2014 might be a bit late, as it’s now Feb… I did have all the best intentions of getting this live before I went to New York, but life got in the way so today is going to be ‘beauty box’ day on the blog. With Glossy Box January as the focus first. So what was January all about? Well, the theme was all about ‘back to basics’, which is quite nice for a start of a New Year. With resoltions in full swing and good intentions flowing like the wine was at Christmas. So the contents can all be considered ‘basics’ or essentials.

In my box there was the Anatomicals Puffy the Eye Bag Slayer patches – a nice touch for the morning after. Currently planning to give these a whirl today after an insanely long journey back from NY yesterday (thanks to cancellations and delays…). Then there’s the Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash – I have the Super Toning Body Oil and absolutely love it. So this immediately appeals – plus the size is perfect for a weekend away. Next up is Vaseline Essential Moisture – about as a basic and essential as you can get. It’s simple, but effective – a light, simple and fresh smelling lotion that leaves skin feeling moisturised. It’s not the most wildly exciting of products but it appeals to me more than an unknown organic brand would for some reason. I like to see recognisable brands in my Glossybox personally.

Then there are the two mini tubes of the Yu0Be Cream – this is one that I have seen pop up in sample boxes a lot and for some reason it just doesn’t excite me. It is one I’m curious to try, but just feel like this size a sample (3g) isn’t sufficient to do so. If they could do a single tube of 10-15g perhaps that would be better. It is a brand I recognise, and having spotted it on the aisles of Sephora I am curious – but the size of these for some reason puts me off trying. As I feel like one or two uses isn’t enough to judge a skincare item and decide a purchase. It’s not even really big enough to use for travel which is the main appeal of a lot of the smaller sized products in a glossy box to me.

Finally there’s the adorable little floral tweezers from the Vintage Costmetics company – a very cute addition and definitely an essential. Tweezers are one of those items I feel the need to have with me at all times and these are great for in the handbag as they have the little plastic case covering them to keep them protected in a make-up bag.

As with any beauty box it’s a bit of a gamble on what you get – having looked at the overview it looks like alternative options included the Balance Me Lip Balm (which is fab),  Montagne Jeunesse face masks and Beauty UK CC cream. Overall, I am happy with this box with my top pick being the tweezers and the one I am least interested in being the Yu-Be Cream.

Also worth a little mention is the change of box – they are now indeed Glossy! In the same familiar pale pink, but now with a glossy finish! Just part one of what I expect to be a few changes from the brand in 2014 – with some exciting thins to come!

I had a sample of Yu0Be Cream ages ago and I absolutely loved it. You don’t need a lot of it at all, not even pea sized, and it’s really moisturising. Was a definite winner for me!
