It’s been a long time since I’ve found a nail varnish as beautiful as Marc Jacobs Petra. It really is a stunner – the purple/gold/bronze combination, in the sleek sort-of ‘pebble’ like bottle. It really is gorgeous. The Marc Jacobs nail range has a few lovely shades in there, but not that many that aren’t easily found for cheaper elsewhere – that’s why I chose Petra over the other shades as felt is was the most unique of the bunch and not one I could have found somewhere else.
The colour itself is of course lovely, but what really managed to blow me away was the fact that it was a one-coat-wonder. Yes, one coat of this shimmering loveliness and my nails were covered. It’s so pigmented and packed with shimmer that it was all it took to create an even and flawless finish. Yes, I was very impressed.
However, whilst the shade, bottle and application all had me wow’d, what I didn’t feel quite as impressed by was the staying power – as it chipped in under 24 hours. To be totally fair, I don’t think my current base coat is really up to scratch, as have had this issue with a few polishes – either they chip or even peel off (kinda annoying, kinda satisfying at the same time) so I can’t fully blame the polish on this basis. But if I was going to nit-pick, this would be the only flaw I found with Marc Jacobs Petra. Other than that, I love it and sort of wish I had picked up a few more shades when I had the chance, but at the time the $18 price tag did make me restrict myself to just the one.
Marc Jacobs Enamoured Nail Lacquer is available from Sephora (not UK) – but fingers crossed will reach UK shores soon, as I really want the Lola shade now too…
