Clinique Anti Blemish Clearing Gel

If you follow me on twitter, then you likely already have heard me have a bit of a moan about my skin – for some reason it’s been going a bit berserk lately. And I don’t like it. Maybe it’s the time of year, maybe it’s hormones or maybe it’s down to my diet. Who knows, but what I do know is that when the craziness happens (basically alternating between really dry and breaking out – sometimes even treating me to the joys of both!) all I want to do is clear it up and get it back to as close to ‘normal’ as possible, as quickly as possible.

When I was a teen, I used to have pretty bad skin – even so bad as to warrant a trip to the doctors to get some heavy stuff to clear it up (a steroid cream, that made it flaky…nice) but from my mid/late teens until lately it’s been pretty consistent – a bit on the dry side on the cheeks, a bit on the oily side on the t-zone and the odd spot popping up each month. My main complaints about my skin more often than not relate to my dehydrated eye area. But over the last few months – basically ever since I got back from Cambodia in Jan, it’s been far spottier and inconsistent than usual. And it sucks, I don’t think there’s a concealer or foundation out there that can really genuinely cover a spot or a healing spot – it can make me very self-concious and basically just whizzes me back to those teen years where it made me so uncomfortable that I went to the doctors to try and find a solution.

And it’s really annoying, because I don’t want to really turn to a skincare regime for blemished skin, I want something that’s going to clear it up and clear it fast – without making me have to overhaul my whole regime. That’s where Clinique’s Anti Blemish Clearing Gel steps in to help matters. The gel has a 4 in 1 ‘Clearing Complex’ that includes – that just happens to spell out the word ‘ACNE’ : Ant-Blemish – using salicylic acid to clear away dead surface cells that clog pores. Control oil – Laminaria Saccharina to help normalise production of oil. Nonirritating – Sea whip extract to calm and soothe and reduce surface redness and Exfoliate – the salycylic acid helps skin have a healthy turnover and uncover new fresh cells.

There are a few ways you can use the Clinique Anti Blemish Clearing Gel, depending on the severity of the problem – If you have frequent breakouts then use the Clearing Gel as a spot treatment and combine with the anti-blemish 3-step routine for a ‘double hit’ of anti-blemish fighting power. If you always have one or two blemishes – use the anti-blemish cleansing foam and then use the clearing gel as an all over treatment to help prevent the reoccurring blemishes from returning. Then add an oil-free moisturiser such as Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. Then if you’re lucky enough to only have a breakout once a month or less – then just use the gel as a spot treatment alongside your regular skincare routine.

Normally I would happily say I fall into the last category, but lately I’ve been more of the ‘constantly having one or two blemishes’ bracket. But all of these are usually around my mouth and jawline. So what I’ve been doing to avoid any un-necessary drying out of other areas (hello, cheeks/eyes) that don’t need the blemish control  – is to use it on the problem area, more generally than as a ‘spot’ treatment, but not as widely as all over the face. I was happy to say that when my regular spot cropped up (so regular I should probably give it a name) it came and went within three days. The raised lump was down within around a day and a half, then the redness and then slight flaking/healing was pretty much invisible (nothing a small touch of concealer wouldn’t hide) after three days. Not quite that magic invisible within seconds that I always dream of – but three days is certainly not to be sniffed at.

I also made some use of the Cleansing Foam when I had the worst of the breakout about a week and a half ago and it certainly made it feel like it passed quicker than usual. I found adding in the Clarifying Lotion for blemished skin was a bit too much for my combination skin as still needed to factor in the need for hydrating but the combination of the foaming cleanser and the clearing gel worked really nicely. But that’s the good thing about the 3-step from Clinique that I’ve always liked, you can pick and choose the bits that work for you and adapt as your skin changes – once a type three, not always a type three!

I will keep the gel on side for my ongoing skin issues, and until I sort out what is actually causing the craziness I will be using this as a treatment for the pesky chin area that is playing up. But if you suffer from breakouts at all, on whatever scale – this is a handy little skin product to have. If you use it regularly or turn to it for emergencies – it works well on both fronts.

My skin has been all over the place this month too, which is strange because my skin is dry as opposed to being blemish-prone. This sounds like a great product to have though when your skin decides to throw a bit of a hissy fit!

This sounds really nice, I am thinking it might work well for me because even though I don’t have blemish prone skin, I do get the occasional stubborn spot.

I’ve been suffering from exactly the same thing since coming back from a trip to Cambodia & Vietnam in November! I’ve always had quite good skin but since returning home my jawline has gone mental, I’m getting married in August so more than slightly concerned! If you do discover a miracle cure, please do let me know! Vicks x

Eek, spookily similar skin nightmares (and also getting married in August)! This has really helped clear my jawline/chin up – but still want to find out why it’s happening more than just get rid!x
