So, I’m back and throwing myself into blogging with all the gusto that was building whilst I was away – there’s nothing like a break to re-fire the old creative juices and inspiration is there?! Kicking off with a little look at a beauty of a collection- this is the Illamasqua Once Collection. It’s Autumnal perfection and has a couple of real gems in there, along with the usual Illamasqua curve balls and some wearable shades.
So a quick rundown of the collection – we have two lip gloss shades. A pearly pink and a very unusual (very illamasqua) sort of muted bronze with slight pink undertones sort of shade. They describe it as ‘Rainbow Beige’ which I’d say is probably a good name for it when swatched actually. Very much a neutral/beige base with some varied shimmer and sparkle through it. Then we have the blusher in the shade ‘Naked Rose’, nail varnish in ‘Melange’ – a teal with golden shimmer running through (if I ever wanted the ‘heart eyes’ emoji for a blog post it would be now). The last but by no means least we have the ‘Vintage Mettalix’ in three shades – a pinky nude ‘Courtier’, a deep brown/bronze ‘Embellish’ and a teal green that matches the nail shade ‘Bibelot’.
Overall, the collection is far more universal I think than I am used to seeing with Illamasqua – sure, they have their neutral offerings and such a wide range of colours that they really do have something for everyone. But when it comes to collections, it’s often more of a split between the wearables and the ‘curveballs’ I mentioned previously. For this collection, the only real curveball is the Opulent lipgloss (rainbow beige), and even this when swatched is far more wearable than it initially looks! The green Vintage Mettalix (cream eyeshadow) is even a soft forrest green sort of shade that I can see those with auburn hair or hazel eyes looking stunning with. Having said that on the curveball front – the shades are unusual – the nail varnish for example is one that really caught my eye on first glance – a greeny/teal shade with strong golden shimmer. It’s just gorgeous and not one I can think of any dupe out there for – which when the beauty world has colours left right and centre right now, is testament to Illamasqua’s ability to bring something new to the table with their shades.
The blusher is a very pretty, and very universal in that I think it would suit pale and darker skin tones equally – it’s a lovely ‘pinched cheeks’ sort of shade – a matte one, but the shade gives that healthy look. The cream eyeshadows are gorgeous shades and super-creamy, very light feeling (almost like a mousse texture) and very pigmented across all three shades. The creaminess for me has meant that staying power isn’t quite as long as I’d like, so I’ve been using the pinky shade, with a base and set with a touch of powder shadow on top to make it last a little longer without creasing. The packaging of these deserves a bit of a nod too – with the rose-gold lids it does make them stand out although does also remind me of the Charlotte Tilbury packaging that’s out there.
This collection has me excited for Autumn – a season that’s easy to look at as the start of Winter, but for me I love it. Life gets a little cosier in Autumn and the colours are just stunning. The stand outs for me from this collection are the nail varnish in ‘Melange’ and the Vintage Mettalix in ‘Courtier’. What catches your eye??
