Mascara is probably one of my top most-loved products. One that I’d take to a desert island or wouldn’t leave home without. Yet, it feels like ages since I last wrote about one – mostly because once I find a good one I do tend to stick to it for the 2/3 month duration of using it up rather than switching between many and wasting them. But I have recently started using a new one, and it’s impressed me quite a lot so needed to dedicate a whole post to it. This is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. This sounds like quite a claim – or it could be possibly created by someone who hasn’t had the most amazing sex life…
First up the packaging is a powdery pink shade and metallic feeling – it feels expensive and whilst the ‘Better Than Sex’ name is embossed on the side, it still feels subtle and not at all tacky. The wand is a big fluffy one, with an hourglass shape to it and comes out of quite a tight nozzle at the top of the tube to prevent it being too coated in product. The hour glass shape is designed to hug the lashes around the shape of the eye to coat from the root all the way up.
But beyond the packaging and the wand – the before and after pictures are the best way of showing what this mascara does. It’s worth considering that when I took these I had only recently had my lash extensions removed and my lashes were feeling a bit short and sad afterwards. But I was seriously impressed with the results from the Too Faced Mascara. It coated the lashes with a thick and very black layer and took my lashes from non-existent to noticeable. Ok, so I don’t quite have the drag-queen level of lashes I had previously with the extensions, but to expect that would be unrealistic. I’m really happy with the results of this mascara.
The one thing I would say is that this mascara is one that does seem to thicken in formula fairly quickly when opened. So for the first week or two a couple of layers did the job easily. After a couple of weeks I needed to drop down or else I would end up with clumping lashes. I also wouldn’t suggest using this one on the bottom lashes as the brush is just too big it’s likely to end up messy. I’d suggest getting a separate dedicated one for the lower lashes or just using a comb-style wand instead of the fat/fluffy bristles as the effect tends to be more lengthening than volumsing.
