Estee Lauder Little Black Primer

Last week I went along to one of those ‘pinch myself’ events that I’ve experienced in my blogging life. This one was a truly fabulous launch for the new Estee Lauder Little Black Primer. The new lash primer is fronted by the gorgeous Kendall Jenner and the really cherry on top for what was already an amazing night was when Kris Jenner randomly turned up at the same venue and the few of us that were left at the end of the night accosted her, primer in hand to say hello! She was very friendly and every bit as fabulous looking in real life as you would imagine. But more importantly… about the Little Black Primer…

Firstly, what actually is a little black Primer? Well, the idea is that you ‘Prime’ your lashes for the mascara – but with a black primer as opposed to the typical white ones. So the Primer itself adds a bit of a tint to lashes – if you want a super natural look you could very well just go for this. But otherwise, it creates a great base for your mascara to cling to. The Little Black Primer then helps to amplify the lashes as it helps separate and define them. Plus it can be used to help ‘set’ your mascara. So perhaps you have an issue with black smudges on the upper lid – this can help seal your mascara to prevent that.

Below I’ve done a before, just the Little Black Primer and then a Little Black Prime and Mascara shot. So you ca see the change. I’m not wearing any other make-up in thees, so excuse the less than perfect brows/dark circles etc.

On first impressions, I like the subtle definition the primer gives to the lashes. Especially the bottom ones. The hint of colour would be enough for me day to day (for bottom lashes). I do feel like the Little Black Primer gives a good amount of separation and lift to lashes and the mascara on top does look pretty great.

My only hesitation on this is that it is another step in the beauty routine. I think if you have really short lashes, or if you do really struggle to keep your mascara in place then this will be handy. Or even just for special occasions when you want to make that extra effort. It definitely delivers what it promises – I just can’t help but question a little if it’s an essential. A nice to have – for sure.  And if lashes are your absolute thing then you probably need this in your arsenal!

But having said that I don’t see it as an essential – I have found myself reaching for it ever since the event last week. The combination of this and the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme ‘Extreme Black’ mascara is my new favourite lash combo. Essential or not – I am loving the results of this. Plus as I said above – it’s a great one for a subtle tint to the bottom lashes without risking spider eyes.

Oh, and for those wondering… here’s the little snap with Kris and the Primer in hand!

I’ve always considered lash primers, but never had the guts to buy one, because I feel like my makeup routine is already so high maintenance that I don’t need to add another step to it!
Great post, so jealous you got to meet Kris!

Haha, what a great photo! LOVE the floor-length, hopefully faux, fur jacket Kris is wearing! I’ve heard a little about this product but was totally confused as to what it actually did…thanks for clearing it up!

This is a great review and I’m glad to read a very honest one because I read many others on this primer and everyone raves (which I’m sure is true) but I also wondered if it really was an essential and how many people would actually do an extra step daily.
It must’ve been amazing to be there! xx
