Clarins is a brand I have a total soft spot for. You can pretty much guarantee that a classic product from the brand will never be too far from my reach. As I type I can see the Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, their Blue Orchid Oil is an absolute winter staple and I adore their face tanning products. But this post is about a new addition – and yes, surprise, surprise – it’s one I like a lot too. These are the Clarins Lip Balm Perfector and they’re basically the new balm variants of the classic Lip Perfector tubes.
These three shades are 05 ‘Red’, 03 ‘My Pink’ and 02 ‘Coral’. Of course as balms they’re sheer and hydrating – so if you’re a bit scared of a red lip then certainly don’t be put off by the name as it really does come out as a pink rather than red (as you can see in the trio of swatches above).
The ‘My Pink’ shade is one of the most interesting – it looks almost invisible on first application, but this is one of those shades that adapts to the Ph level of your skin and creates a ‘personalised’ shade for your skin-tone. This is the one I swatched on my lips to demonstrate. On me it turns from almost nothing (seen on hand swatch) to quite a strong pink shade (on lips). Whilst I like the novelty factor of these, I’m a tad on the fence on the actual shades created by these types of products – but on this one, I do really love this pink as it’s nice and bright but still has the sheer shade of a balm.
For me, these are just that touch more convenient than the original lip perfectors – which are a sponge applicator and tube design. So you squeeze a little liquid out on to the applicator and smooth on to lips. These are just easy peasy balms. They maybe don’t quite have the same ‘perfecting’ effect as the original – as these had some sort of Witchcraft type smoothing effect too. But in terms of ease of application, these are fabulous. My personal favourite – the ‘My Pink’ shade.
