Maybe I’m just getting boring but we got a new bed recently and it is hands down one of the best purchases of my life. Previously we had an Ikea Malm bed with a cheap mattress and whilst it’s been fine for the 6 or 7 years we have had it until relatively recently. In recent months it dawned on us that it was past the point of no return. It was bumpy, unsupportive and generally just past it. Combined with the fact the bed frame was low, meaning not really ideal for storing anything under… it meant new bed time (plus was an excuse for a bit of interior-obsessing for the bedroom too). So off to Dreams we went and ordered the bed of dreams.
Well, a combination of dreams – a divan base = tons of easy access storage. A wooden headboard = nice and simple, classic style. A mattress that is AMAZING to sleep on = zero bad backs. YES for no bad backs! I don’t know the exact details of the bed we went for, but the main bit is that it’s a firm memory foam mattress – so it’s supportive, but still with that amazing ‘sinking’ feeling too.
The next best bit was stocking up on all the other fun bits a new bed needs (yes, needs) – new bedding and new PJs (these are the Smokey Floral tshirt and legging combo from ASOS – super comfy). Plus the perfect add-ons for a good night of sleep of This Works Deep Sleep Plus Pillow Spray * and some pre-bed pampering via the Kiss The Moon After Dark Bath Oil and Face Oil * – both really lovely to use as a pre-sleep relax routine.
I headed to House of Fraser to raid the homewares department for some dreamy bedding. I found some that I just loved – the Morocco Ash bedding set from the Living by Christiane Lemieux range. I was lucky enough to get them in the sale post-Christmas. Going for grey and white, plus picking up some large champagne gold pillows to tie the bedding into the curtains of the bedroom (already a champagne gold colour that I bought when we first moved in from Zara Home). I then added one little metallic sequin pillow in a pewter to sort of link the golden/champagne sheen and the grey colour together – and attempt to make it look a bit fancy…
We still need to get a couple of bed side tables to really finish off the whole bedroom – it’s proving tricky as I want a fairly simple style and ideally a mix of oak wood and white as that’s what the other furniture in the room is. The challenge being finding ones that are narrow enough for the space as it’s only limited. But the hunt is on – I was initially determined to buy something really good quality rather than just the quick Ikea fix. But have actually found something from Ikea that could just be the perfect fit… will see and will likely blog the finished result when all pictures up on wall/lamps in place and all those lovely things that make bed a great place to be.
