Tom Ford Grey Vetiver

Yes, this is Tom Ford Grey Vetiver – a fragrance that is technically aimed at men. But frankly, it smells so good I don’t care about this and more than happily wear it myself. I first tried this when on a little browse of Duty Free when on route to New York last year. It was an instant love and at this stage I wasn’t aware it was a men’s fragrance – I just like it. Plus if traditional fragrance packaging design was to be believed then I would actually assume this was for women and the darker bottles (black, deep purple etc) were more masculine. But coloured bottles aside, this may be for men but for me it’s a lovely scent and I actually think it’s pretty universal…

Over the years I’ve discovered there are a few scents that just win me over every time and Vetiver is one of these. Every time I smell it I get a real-life version of the heart eyes emoji. You know how sometimes something just catches you and you can’t put your finger on what it is or why? Well, vetiver is one of those things for me. To me Tom Ford Grey Vetiver is a fresh scent with a bit of a peppery/woody sort of side to it. The top notes are all others ones that I frequently find myself liking too – Grapefruit, Orange Blossom and Sage (being the most ‘masculine’ of the notes). Then heart notes of  ‘Pimento, Orris root and nutmeg’  – not notes you often find in feminine fragrances to be honest. Then with base notes of Vetiver, Oak moss, Amber and woodsy notes – again, definitely more on the traditionally masculine side, but meh.. I love it!

For me the notes I seem to detect the most are the Vetiver, along with something citrus and fresh but with an under current of something woody. It reminds me a bit of another fragrance I love that’s a little on the non-traditionally female side that is Narciso Rodrigues Essence (silver chrome bottle) which is a musky/powdery scent that is for women but definitely not in the ‘typical’ floral sense.

What are your thoughts on wearing fragrance for men? My view is that if it smells good, then I don’t really care who it’s for… let me know what you think!

My husband has spent our last times in duty free dousing himself in this stuff! It is gorgeous and I’m a great believer in wear a scent you love no matter who it’s aimed at. I usually love mens fragrances as I prefer muskier scents, nobody cares when its on and you smell great! x

I love wearing fragrances aimed at men. They are usually more interesting than those made for women. This on sounds lovely and the simple packaging is stunning!

Tom Ford is the master of fragrances! I love Santal Blush and my brother has Tobacco Vanille and Rive d’Ambre, both of which are divine. For me sandalwood is a bit like vet over for you – anything that has it is a sure hit with me.
