I’ve always been a big fan of any beauty product that offers performance combined with ease of application. I’m not one to take a complicated approach to beauty – never have been, never will be. I want that high maintenance look, sure. But I want it to take five minutes. Ok, so maybe a little more than five minutes but you know what I mean – I want max look, minimum time. I think you likely get my point now, so I’ll move on to actually talking about the NARS Velvet Shadow Stick shades that this products are about.
The four shades I have here are: Hollywoodland (golden) Oaxaca (taupe) Glenan (navy) and Reykjavic (grey). A pretty classic shade line up. Covering off nudes, day to day and smokey eye options in a nice little quad of colour choices. Each shade is absolutely silky smooth and hugely pigmented – just take a peek below to see what I mean.
The shades and pigment pay off are all really lovely. You can see just how intense and dark the grey and navy shades are especially. The two paler ones (golden and the taupe) are highly pigmented. But they do show up every tiny crease. in the skin. They apply direct then can be blended out either with a finger – but be quick as they do ‘set’ and become less easy to play with.
My favourite shade of the bunch is (predictably) Oaxaca – a nice and safe but pretty taupe shade that works for day or can be used for a subtle smokey eye if applied more heavily. Staying power wise this is ideal – it’s become a daily choice and it does stay put for a long day with little or no creasing at all.
