Late in 2015 Clarins relaunched it’s range of Jolie Rouge lipsticks and now to join the club is the relaunched Clarins Jolie Rouge Brilliant Lipstick shades. Offering a moisturising, sheer with a hint of shine selection of shades. So if you perhaps prefer your lip colour on the subtle/sheer side or maybe want something that sits in a happy medium place between lipstick and gloss then these will be right up your street. As much as I love a bold lip, day to day a sheer colour is a lot less maintenance to wear so tend to opt for easy-wear, comfortable and flattering shades just like these as much as possible.
The eight shades shown here are (from left to right): 03 Guava, 25 Rose Blossom, 24 Watermelon, 27 Hot Fuchsia, 28 Pink Praline, 29 Tea Rose, 30 Soft Berry, 26 Hibiscus.
Texture wise, whilst these are described as Jolie Rouge Brilliant and when you look at the bullet it can look a little shimmery, it’s not really the case. They’re more like a subtle sheen – not an 80’s style frosted lipstick finish. Which is good news for anyone with less than perfect lips *raises hand* as a frosted/shimmer finish can highlight every last line/grove/flake. A couple of the shades are a tad more shimmery, but generally they offer shine with a subtle gloss rather than shimmer. The shimmer comes from very fine pearly bits rather than fine glitter – so it really is a sheen not sparkle. They also feel seriously hydrating – a welcome feeling if you’re suffering from wintery chapped lips or are prone to. They formula is created to offer a hydrating/plumping type finish – so quite literally the opposite of the frosted lipstick finish!
Clarins Jolie Rouge Brilliant Lipstick shades swatched above as: 03 Guava, 25 Rose Blossom, 24 Watermelon, 27 Hot Fuchsia, 28 Pink Praline, 29 Tea Rose, 30 Soft Berry, 26 Hibiscus.
The stand out colour to me is 27 Hot Fuchsia – as I’m a sucker for a bright pink. But for day to day wear I really like 29 Tea Rose, 30 Soft Berry and 26 Hibiscus – all really wearable nude shades from the most subtle to a more nude and pink options.
I really like these as a refreshing alternative to a bold/matte lip that’s all over the place at the moment. They give a lovely fresh look and as you can see from the swatches – you do still have plenty of bold colour options in with the more subtle nude type shades.
Any of the shades tickle your fancy?! There are 12 shades in total (those not shown here include: 07 Raspberry, 20 Coral Tulip, 06 Fig and 13 Cherry)
