New Orleans is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most amazing places in the world I’ve ever been to. One of my favourite places in the world is Louisiana, and New Orleans is a place that if it’s on your ‘would quite like to go there’ lists then I urge you to bump it to the top and get planning. In fact, right now Mardi Gras is kicking off over there and if there’s ever a better time to be talking New Orleans then now would be it. Even if just typing out this post has me longing for muggy nights drinking hurricanes, dancing in the street (and on pool tables in bars…but that’s another story) and eating po-boys and beignets. But whilst I can’t be there for the parades right now, I have a little parade (see what I did there) of the OPI New Orleans Collection to show you.
OPI New Orleans – The Collection
Here we have the rainbow that is the OPI New Orleans Collection and it has some absolute gems in there. A couple that immediately caught my eye and colours that I immediately associate with New Orleans, Louisiana and LSU (purple and gold – the school colours…). Firstly, the names of these colours all brought a smile to my face. From left to right above we have:
‘Let Me Bayou a Drink’ – a cream blush pink
‘Humid-Tea’ – Creamy nude with shimmer
‘Suzi Nails New Orleans’ – Bright baby pink cream
‘I manicure for beads’ – Bright creamy purple
‘Spare Me a French Quarter’ – Raspberry cream
‘She’s a Bad Muffuletta’ – Bright red cream
‘Got myself into a Jam-balaya’ – Pinky peachy coral cream
‘Crawfishin’ for a compliment’ – A bright creamy orange
‘Take a Right on Bourbon’ – Metallic dirty gold/pewter
‘I’m Soo Swamped!’ – A creamy green
‘Rich girls & Po-Boys’ – Bright creamy china blue
The first one I couldn’t wait to get on my nails was the gorgeous Show Us Your Tips! It’s a beauty, it does take three coats to get it to an opaque finish. It’s very pretty- and I did try and get a shot of the colour with a flash of my New Orleans related tattoo but it wasn’t working for me to contort my angles to do that. But on my left wrist I have a little Fleur de lis tattoo which is my own little reminder of the amazing year I spent in Louisiana (in case you didn’t know the Fleur de lis is very much part of New Orleans so every time I see this it reminds me of one of my favourite places in the world. I could probably get quite deep here about what the city and state mean to me, but I’ll leave that because this is about nail varnish not deep and meaningful stuff. BACK TO THE BEAUTY!
In terms of the nail shades that are most ‘linked’ to New Orleans. I’d say the purple/green/gold – these are the colours of Mardi Gras. The purple and gold are the colours of LSU and the LSU tigers – a bit part of New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole – as the Tigers say ‘I bleed purple and gold’. Then there’s the Crawfish-like red (technically the She’s a bad Muffuletta! is the most boiled-Crawfish like of the bunch.
My favourite in terms of unique shades from the OPI New Orleans collection, it has to me ‘Show Me Your Tips!’ (FYI… a play on words for a tradition of sorts where girls flash to get beads thrown at them… also FYI I never did this and you certainly don’t need to to get beads thrown at you).
Now excuse me whilst I look back at my old photos and consider jumping on a plane to New Orleans ASAP. Take me back to Bourbon Street! Please distract me from my trip down memory lane and tell me which shades from the collection catch your eye and if New Orleans is on your ‘must visit’ list let me know! (If it’s not…it should be!)
