Us blogger types are known for loving a good haul. A guilty spree or little treat here and there… picking up the latest buzz product or that item that looked oh-so-good on Instagram that just needs to be in your wardrobe asap. Also, with the blogger/social media world being as it is, us materialistic types can be prone to losing track of our spending… one too many treats here and there, the purchases justified but maybe not quite tallied up to the totally accurate total (the ‘it was on sale which makes it basically way cheaper than it *actually* is’ excuse…). So as a little game/test (with a fun prize) here’s a mega haul … that you can win. The catch being is you have to guess how much it cost.
Sometimes the need to have that lusted after item sometimes clouds your focus on any budget you’re meant to be sticking to. I’m sure we’re not all guilty of this all the time – but I know there’s been many a time I’ve over spent and had serious buyers remorse when I’ve checked my bank account or had an unexpected bill pop up.
So with that in mind I bring to you a rather fun post that is designed to highlight the whole thing around how easy it is to lose sight of what you’re spending – something that happens in blog land and of course…the real world! If you haven’t had one of those unexpected bills I mentioned happen to you in life then you’re a luckier person than me. Fortunately, to help avoid those shock bills the folks over at E.ON. have created the smart pay as you go meter which allows you to keep a handle on what you’re spending in real time, and avoid nasty (and expensive surprises).
As a fun little way of illustrating how easy it is to lose track of spending… I’ve gone on a not-so-little spree… which I have photographed below. The best bit… you can win it. Yep, the actual items shown below could be yours. All you need to do is guess the full value of the items I splurged on – the person who guesses correctly or closest to the correct total will win all the goodies… if you guess wrong…then hopefully it’s a little reminder of how easy it is to lose sight of budgets and over spend!
So on to the haul…that you could win. It was a bit of a funny one – shopping for things when you know they’re for someone else but you can’t choose them for a specific person. SO I took the approach of buying things I would like – some of which I actually bought double (not that the second would could for the haul) as they’re things I want to try myself or clothes I like etc. So my plan is, for a couple of the items in the haul where they would need to be specific to the person (Chanel foundation for example) I’ve bought one as illustration…but the winner will recieve their own, they just need to let me know the colour they want**. The clothes I’ve included are all either medium or a size 10 – where possible I’ll switch for the winner’s size but if same size item isn’t available a substitute may be made***.
The point of the competition is to guess how much this haul cost – so I’ve purposely made it not too obvious what each and every item is. But a little run down of what it includes: Chanel foundation, Chanel SS collection nail colour, Chanel Boy Lipstick, Necklace from Orelia at Topshop, Topshop Freedom necklace, Striped shirt dress from Topshop (size 10), jumper/shirt top from Topshop (size 10), Jamie jeans, Topshop (w28 l32), Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh (75ml), 3x MAC lipsticks (Faux, Chatterbox & Rebel), Travel size MAC Strobe Cream, Topshop bracelet, pair of spotty socks from Topshop, Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow palette (La Dolce Vita), pink and black clutch bag from Topshop, black denim look leggings from River Island (size 10), slouchy mint top from River Islan (size 10), Aesop Reverence Aromatic Hand Wash…. PHEW. SOME SERIOUS SPENDING…including a few of the little items that are always my downfall when it comes to over spending… you know, the little item that looks cute that you spot whilst in the quue to pay for something else… Always guilty of throwing these into my basked at the last minute and boy do they add up!
