I have a new daily skincare routine happening at the moment and it’s one that tries to tackle a couple of things that bug me about my combination skin – one being a T-zone that tends to get shiny and another being the dry eye area. Mattifying products sort one and exasperate the other, and vice versa for any sort of hydrating product… I end up being shine central. So anything that promises to do a bit of both hydration and deal with the oily bits (and subsequent breakouts) has my attention. Which makes it ideal time to talk about this new addition to the Vichy Normaderm product.
What makes the Vichy Normaderm product really special is a pretty massive claim – that it helps deal with breakouts that happen around your period. You know those hormonal ones that spring up (hello spotty chin…). These are the sort of breakouts that women well into their 20’s and 30’s and beyond can suffer with, not just a teenager. And you know what, it sucks. Even the best make-up in the world can be challenged by trying to cover spots like that. So for a product to potentially offer a solution is pretty bold.
Vichy Normaderm Ingredients:
The key ingredients in this new launch are: Airlicium which is described as an “ultra-light substance that disperses and evaporates sebum.”. I find it hard to imagine sebum evaporating… but this one promises a mattified appearance and visibly reducing the appearance of pores. Then there’s ‘PheResorchinol’ an “anti-tyrosinase, desquamating and anti-bacterial super ingredient” Erm, what?! I have zero idea what that means… BUT it basically exfolites (unblocks pores) and helps reduce UV induced pigmentation.
Then we have LHA Salicilic Acid (1.5%) which is a key ingredient in tackling breakouts as it helps exfoliate and has anti-inflamitory properties. Especially key for dealing with blackheads. My most hated of all the hated spots in the world.
Finally, the other ingredient is Caprylol Glycerine which helps stop the ‘growth of acne germs’ and sebum production. Glycerine is also the key moisturising ingredient which means you can tackle breakouts whilst not skimping on the hydration part.
I’ve been using this as an added step of my skincare routine in the day time. After washing my face I’ll add a serum, eye cream and moisturiser. Then I’ll add this before I apply make-up – sort of like a primer of sorts. The main plus I’ve found so far is that it does make a great skin prep product ahead of make-up as skin feels sort of silky smooth before I apply make-up when I use this. But not like I’ve coated in silicone or anything.
Time will tell if it helps tackle the monthly hormone breakouts, but if it helps then I’ll be needing truck loads of this stuff to make sure I use it forever.
