The beauty world is awash with lipsticks right now. Every brand and their friend are bringing out the newest bright/sheer/hydrating/matte/shimmer/cream lip options so you can pretty much choose the exact colour you want and find it somewhere out there. With such a surge of lip ranges I thought I would pull my own little edit of five new lipsticks to try this Spring.
Taking a look at them from top to bottom on the above swatches…
1. YSL Vernis A Levres Plum-Up Glossy Stain ‘Rose Nu’
This isn’t so much a colour but a plumping lip product. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t really remember a plumping lip product of this type from the high-end market? This is the shade Rose Nu and is a very sheer pale pink shade with hint of shimmer. On the lips it looks basically like a clear/very sheer gloss but adds a bit of an evening and of course the plumping effect to make lips look a bit better than before – especially if, like me, your lips are still feeling a bit parched post-winter. The plumping effect will feel familiar if you have tried other similar products on the market as it comes from that slightly stingy/hot but menthol sort of feeling on the lips. On the plus side this also has a moisturising effect thanks to trusty Hyaluronic Acid.
2. Clinique Pop Lip Colour ‘Punch Pop’
A new range of lipsticks from Clinque that are frankly, amazing. They offer a combination of primer and intense pigment in one and they apply like a dream. I’d go so far to say they’re probably the most impressive lipsticks I’ve tried on first use. Yep. Big claims – but first use was a serious wow moment. This colour was an immediate love as I’m a sucker for a bright pink and this was the brightest fuchsia of the bunch.
3. Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colour ‘Pink Flush’
On the other end of the pigment scale to Clinique with a new range of shades from their sheer offering we have Bobbi Brown. I am a HUGE fan of Bobbi Brown products overall, so they always catch my eye when something new launches and as someone who likes lipstick but doesn’t love repeated need for complicated touch-ups then this range of sheer pigment lipsticks was an instant handbag staple. If you want a hint of colour that’s ‘there’ enough to look polished but sheer enough to apply on the tube without fear of clown-face then these are for you. There’s a wide range of shades from lilac toned nudes to Hollywood Red (a great way to start out if you’re afraid of full-on red lips). This natural pinks shade was my favourite of the bunch though as it was flattering but still natural looking. A good every day Spring shade.
4. Topshop ‘Head Rush’
This post is a bit of a who’s-who of some of my most loved brands….so of course Topshop is in there. Their lipsticks are one of my impulse-purchase weaknesses and this is one of the new Spring shades. A reddy orange shade with a hint of sheen to it. It feels like they have updated the formula for the lipsticks as this one glided on smoother than they usually do – whilst they’re great formulas already, this one feels far more hydrating than the Topshop lipsticks I have already. I do love a reddy orange shade and I like how this one is a sort of slightly muddied reddy orange, rather than the bright that are all over. A bit of a twist and can see this being a Spring/Summer favourite for anyone wanting to take a twist on the whole ’90’s revival’ trend.
5. Clinique Pop Lip Colour ‘ Poppy Pop’
Yep, after my big claims of how impressive these are I couldn’t resist but include another in this edit of new lipsticks to try. Another bright shade that caught my eye was this one ‘Poppy Pop’. A bright coral-red shade, a bit pinker and creamier than the Topshop one. This is such a comfortable shade to wear and I think this sort of colour suits so many skin tones from light to dark.
What do you think of these new lipsticks to try? Lipstick does have to be the easiest way to update your look from one season to the next so makes sense that there are so many news ones right now! Yay for Spring lip colours!
