When it comes to interesting collaborations, this is certainly one of them. Who would have thought a beauty brands and a restaurant could pair up and come up with something that manages to balance that line between novelty and totally working… well that’s what the Bobbi Brown Balthazar Afternoon Tea has managed to do.
So, taking a few steps back to start with. Why the collaboration? Well, a few reasons. Firstly, if you have been to Covent Garden over the past couple of years, you will likely notice it’s become a bit of a hot spot for beauty brands. If you love beauty, then it’s a must-visit. With everything from the MAC Pro Store, the Burberry Beauty Box, a Clinique shop, stand alone Chanel and Dior beauty stores. The Charlotte Tilbury Flagship and now there’s even Kiko and the new brand 3INA joining the party. Of course along with all these there’s a gorgeous Bobbi Brown store too – on the side overlooking the square and conveniently located around the corner from Balthazar.
But it isn’t just the proximity that created the partnership. Over in New York, the original Balthazar is a stones throw from the Bobbi Brown Offices and it’s a favourite destination of Bobbi Brown herself. So a little creative thinking and a London partnership has been created – with a Balthazar Red Bobbi Brown lipstick being created alongside the Bobbi Brown Afternoon Tea which I got to sample this week.
The key feature of the afternoon tea are the specially created pastries that are all inspired by classic Bobbi Brown products. As you can spot above.. there’s a lip shaped one, a Shimmer Brick one and one designed to look like the Foundation Stick. The little macaroon is inspired by the Cream Blushers too… and the chocolate one I forget to be honest. But what I don’t forget… the taste!
I’ve been to a few afternoon tea offerings around London, some of which are designed to replicate fashion items or other amazing and instagramable designs. But sometimes the style takes over from the substance and once you’re done taking photos the taste can be a little flat. Not the case here, the pastries are as delicious as they look. My personal favourite being the lip shaped one. Delicious.
On the lipstick too – it’s a beautiful classic vintage red. With a bit of warmth to it – basically mimicking the signature red of the lettering and the awnings outside the restaurant. A classic shade and a fun way to do a two way collaboration! It’s limited edition of course, so if you like it then move quick – it’s exclusively available at the Covent Garden shop. The other great addition to the partnership is that everyone who enjoys the afternoon tea also gets a complimentary make-up lesson at the Covent Garden Studio.
The Bobbi Brown Balthazar Afternoon Tea starts at £25 per person, available 3-5pm until September this year.
The Vintage Red for Balthazar Lip Colour is £20 and exclusive to the Covent Garden Store and online at www.bobbibrown.co.uk
