Profhilo with Dr Preema Vig

Before I kick off this post I should state that I know the idea of injectable skin treatments will not be for everyone. Personally, whilst no – I don’t love injections – I put that aside for the results they can give. That’s something that is very much my personal choice. If you’re not keen on the idea of tweakments or injectable skin treatments then this won’t be one for you. But if you’re open to the idea, already experienced in this area or just plain curious then please do read on. Just to note, this is a review of my own personal experience of this treatment. I can answer any questions on this basis, but anything regarding the treatment overall and information I will pass back to the professionals to answer and reply as quickly as I can.

Profhilo Treatment Review

What is Profhilo?

Right, once all that ‘disclaimer’ type info is out of the way. Let’s get stuck in. What is Profhilo? Well, that’s pretty much the key question. Profhilo is described as a whole new category of injectable treatment called ‘bio remodelling’ – what it is NOT is a dermal filler or a bio revitaliser. What does that mean in more simple terms? The treatment is an injectable form of hyaluronic acid – an ingredient you’re likely familiar with in your skincare routine. The idea being that the high concentration of stabilised hyaluronic acid is injected into the deeper layers of the skin to boost your skin’s hydration and help tackle signs of ageing such as sagging skin.

How does Profhilo work?

The hyaluronic acid in a Profhilo treatment is stabilised and as such the results are a gradual and prolonged process (downside means not an immediate ‘wow’ result on leaving a clinic, but upside means results last for many months). The slow release of the hyaluronic acid and stimulation of four different types of collagen mean the results on radiance, hydration, elasticity and reduction of fine lines happens over time.

What does the Profhilo treatment involve?

A Profhilo treatment is a two stage (sometimes three) process. The first treatment (talking for the face, this can be used on other areas but my experience was for the face) involves injections in five points on either side of the face. Following with another identical placement treatment a month later. The benefits of the treatment are expected to last six to nine months following your second session.

Of course this will vary depending on your own skin’s reaction and many other factors. Profhilo can also be combined with other aesthetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, or can be used as an alternative to if the idea of Botox or similar doesn’t appeal to you.

My Profhilo experience:

Dr Preema does offer the option of a numbing cream before treatment. On the first treatment I didn’t have this and yes, the injections do pinch a little. I filmed the process so you can always have a little watch of my IGTV Profhilo diary to see how I reacted. To be honest the biggest thing for me is general nerves/tensions around injections. I tend to squeeze my eyes shut and pretend it’s not happening. On the second treatment Dr Preema used this ice stick to desensitise the area and that worked a treat for easing the discomfort.

As with any injectable type treatment there is the risk of bleeding and bruising. On the first treatment I did have some minor bruising around one injection site on my chin. Very minor and went down within a matter of days (and was easy to cover with makeup). On the second treatment I didn’t experience any bruising at all.

Immediately after treatment the injection sites are a little raised and some small incision points can be seen. But in less than an hour this went down. On the day I met a friend for dinner (remember when we could do that?!) and if I hadn’t told her about the treatment she wouldn’t have noticed. There’s no discomfort at all. Advice for post treatment is similar to that of other injectables – best to avoid strenuous exercise, steamy baths etc and they do advise to avoid applying makeup or touching your face to minimise any risk of infection. You’re also advised against any other cosmetic procedures for 48 hours – however you can have a treatment such as Botox at the same time.

The big question then is down the results. I have thoroughly critiqued my skin many a time. The trickiest thing about the treatment is truly assessing the results as they are gradual. I would confidently say my skin has felt less dehydrated since my second treatment and looking closely now (I write this nearly three months post treatment) I feel the under-eye lines that I normally see starting to run down my upper cheek area are definitely less prominent.

The one thing I would do differently having the treatment again is look at the timing of it. I wish I had had the treatment at the same time I was due to get Botox redone as I can 100% see how the results of the two combined would really be incredible. I would also have said that the impact of stress of lockdowns in the past few months have probably been a little less than kind to my skin so might have taken a little edge off results.

The ultimate question when it comes to any treatment such as this, is would you have it again. Yes, I would. No, it’s not a cheap option but when you factor in how long it lasts I can see how it can be a great boost to a skincare routine. I would see it as another brick in building a solid skincare routine supported with treatments like this and professional facials etc.

As I mentioned at the start. I am happy to answer any questions about my own experience of this treatment – but please note these are my experience only. Any wider questions about the treatment as a whole I will relay to Dr Preema for an expert response.

Can you tell me if injection sites were visible 2-3 hours after treatment? Thank you.

I’d say not obviously. I had it done again recently and saw my mum straight after and she didn’t say anything – and she’s pretty anti-injectables!

Profhilo is a revolutionary treatment that aids in bringing back the fresh and youthful appearance that many seek. In this day and age, non-invasive surgery is the most popular method for altering your features. With Profhilo’s unique formula that contains the ever popular hyaluronic acid, the treatment encourages the production of collagen in the skin and brings back the bounciness and luminosity in your appearance. It acts as a skin hydrator rather than a skin filler. When the substance is injected under the skin it disperses evenly across the surface and instantly replenishes your complexion. This occurs in four weeks with two sessions, giving you the plump skin you want in very little time.

How much does profhilo injections procedure cost? I know that the Profhilo injection itself costs about $170-180 in the US.

    • Jen says:

The whole treatment is around £650 for both sessions a month apart. Although of course cost varies depending on practitioner.
