Almost too late but wanted to pop this post out before we officially hit the end of the month – the box is still available at the time of the post going live so not too late if you want to pick this one up. The Birchbox July 2016 is a collaboration between the brand and Millie Mackintosh. The former Made in Chelsea person, previously married to Professor Green now mainly known for her clothing line and being a major #FITSPO on Instagram. Amongst other things of course. Well, she has played a part in the curation of the July ‘never ending summer’ box, including a couple of full sized products plus some other bits and bobs that I’m sharing mini reviews/thoughts on below.
So in my Birchbox July 2016 I found the following:
- LOC Millie ‘Bohemian Rose’ lip crayon (full size)
- John Frieda Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Anti Frizz Primer (full size)
- Nails Inc mini
- Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water (premium travel size)
- Hydraluron Moisture Boost Sheet Mask (single mask)
Overall, a good range of brands and great to see a couple of full sized products in there. I have always loved Hydraluron so that was probably the one I was most excited about.
The only ‘niggle’ I have with this is the Nails Inc polish – normally this would be something that would have me all heart-eyes-emoji. But in all honesty, it’s a bit of a crappy shade… pun intended. When it’s in the old style packaging as well, after the Nails Inc re-brand (which I love, by the way) it just has a slight feeling that they went to the back of the warehouse and dug out whatever unwanted shades they had left? Maybe just me and my own personal taste – but the combination of the muddy brown shade and the older branding makes it hard to see this one as a really ‘curated’ product option. BUT all is not lost, I’m sure if you got a good shade then the older style packaging would be overlooked and the other products in the box are all good sized, quality products. It’s been interesting to see a box full of bigger name brands – as I’m quite used to seeing smaller/lesser known brands for 1/2 of the product slots in most boxes now. The LOC pencil is the only lesser known one here and that’s a brand connected to Birchbox so makes sense it’s the Millie-branded one that’s included. I believe Millie is also working with John Frieda, so this one also makes sense.
What do you think of this box and it’s contents? Good collaboration? Would you be pleased to receive this selection if you are a subscriber to Birchbox? I’d love to know your thoughts – especially on my point about the nail varnish.
