Kate Somerville DeliKate Soothing Skincare

Skincare is THE THING right now and not just a moment of course, skincare is a time investment and one I am HERE for. However, with the wonderful developments in recent years of the different ingredients, acids, peels, retinol and masks…. it’s a log for the skin to take. Throw in elements like stress that are… let’s put it lightly… rife… at the moment. All contribute to flare ups of irritated and sensitised skin.

DeliKate

When I was on the launch zoom one of the key details that Kate Somerville explained about the range is how there’s a difference between those with sensitive skin and those with sensitised skin. One is more reactive in general and the other is reacting or inflamed due to external factors. For example, sun burned skin or one that’s perhaps gone too heavy on the retinol or peels.

I know retinol is basically a wonder product for anti-ageing and general skincare. But at the same time it’s a product that is so effective that it has potential to irritate the skin. I’ve found with especially the delicate eye area I’ve had reactions in the past where my skin feels slightly burned and sore to the touch. Having that sort of reaction has made me wary of products with retinol and as a result I’m probably not getting the best out of them by using them often enough.

However, a range like this from Kate Somerville is absolutely designed to tackle sensitised skin moments. Be that from over use of treatments at home or even post professional treatment in a salon (when that glorious day comes that they can safely reopen!). It might be having a little too much sun (WEAR SPF PEOPLE) on holiday (again… when the day comes) or even just a bit of stress making your skin feel aggravated.

The range has three products. A beautifully creamy and soothing cleanser that’s just very simple in formula to avoid any risk of extra irritation. Then there’s a serum – the serum is a repackage of an existing peptide serum. Designed to help calm and repair your skin’s natural barrier. Which ultimately is the key step to having happy skin. Then lastly there’s the hero of the Stressed Skin Saver cream. A truly beautiful texture. Feels like a big hug for your skin when it’s feeling a bit freaked out and stressed.

A review of the new DeliKate skincare range. Product shot.

The cream was created in response to a need in Kate’s clinics in LA to soothe post treatment skin. Helping ease any redness and soothe skin. Overall the message I got about this range is that it’s a bit of a ‘problem solver’ to have in your kit. So much like a spot treatment for hormonal breakouts and similar, having this in your cabinet or drawer to reach for in times of stress or over-use of product is a handy little tool to have in your belt.

The key ingredients are all about soothing, calming and easing redness. Whilst delivering a load of hydration. It has ingredients such as shea butter, rice bran extract, soy bean seed extract, ginger root extract and cucumber seed extract.

Of the three products I love the serum and can see that being more than just a tool but more of a day to day staple. It just makes my skin feel really happy. I’ve been using as my final serum step before a moisturiser. The cream is also really special but I am trying to only lean on this one as a product for when my skin is irritated rather than too regularly.

If you tend to have flare ups of sensitivity and redness or if you’re partial to a peel or using retinol then I’d recommend checking this new range out. Anything that looks after the skin barrier is worth a look to make sure skin stays happy whilst you give it those treatments to keep it looking all juicy and fresh! If you have a day to day sensitive skin type then do take a look at the Goat Milk range they have – the Goat Milk Cleanser (ad – affiliate link) is the thing of legends and works a treat for all skin types (I’m yet to hear someone who hasn’t tried and loved it).

The Kate Somerville DeliKate range is available now and prices range from £33- £70katesomerville.co.uk
